Woke Up (Part 5)

Ancient medical practices were very backward.

People need to get up early just to brew the medicine.

Although this body only gets caught a cold

She still needed to take the medicine, so it would prevent any lingering effects of the illness.

Once the medicine had cooled enough, she drank it all.

From the kitchen doorway, she could see Huo Tianzhou sitting in the courtyard.

At his feet were scattered bamboo strips, and the small bamboo basket he was weaving was nearly complete.

Liang Hongyu looked around, grabbed a bamboo stool from the kitchen, and walked outside.

She casually placed the stool in front of him and sat down.

"Was it you who carried me down the mountain?" Liang Hongyu asked.

The original owner had fainted on the mountain and lay there for almost an hour in the heavy rain before losing consciousness.

Liang Hongyu had vague memories of being carried down the mountain but she wasn't sure.

Huo Tianzhou secured a bamboo strip with his thumb, looked up at her, and after a moment, he slightly nodded his head.

"Is there any more medicine?" Liang Hongyu asked again.

Huo Tianzhou shook his head and looked at her, puzzled, before lowering his head to continue working on the bamboo strips.

Good, no more medicine left.

Liang Hongyu had been drinking it for three days while lying in bed.

It wasn't that she disliked the taste of herbal medicine, but she simply wasn't used to it.

She glanced at the bamboo basket in Huo Tianzhou's hands and continued, "I'm already better. I need to go back to town to work."

The original owner had worked as a laborer at the dock in town.

In the Great Yuan Dynasty it was not that strange for a woman to work outside.

It was very different from the ancient China that she knew in history books, where the only thing that women could do was just to be servants for their husbands and to produce sons for them so the sons could carry on the family names.

In this place women almost have equal footing with men, she even hear that there's a woman who work as a minister in the court.

This is thanks to the current Empress Huanyue who currently ruled over the Great Yuan Dynasty.

Having been home for several days, it was time to make an appearance.

Upon hearing this, Huo Tianzhou's hands paused, and a flicker of hesitation has appeared in his eyes as he looked up at her.

Mother Huo could understand his meaning just by looking into his eyes, but Liang Hongyu couldn't.

So, she asked him, "What do you want to say? Can you write it down for me?"

Hearing this, Huo Tianzhou paused, stared at Liang Hongyu for a long moment, then turned around, put down the bamboo basket, and went into the kitchen.

He came out with a piece of charcoal in his hand.

Although Huo Tianzhou had never attended school, his father had taught him basic characters, so he could write simple words.
