Woke Up (Part 6)

Whether it was a problem with his strength or the uneven edges of the charcoal that making it hard to hold, the writing was rough and uneven, but it was still legible.

This dynasty used traditional Chinese characters just like in later generations, so Liang Hongyu could recognize the few words he wrote and roughly guess their meaning.

"You mean that while I was unconscious, Gong Banyun came by and said that someone had taken over my work in town, and I don't need to go there anymore?"

Since his throat had been damaged, this was the first time Huo Tianzhou could communicate directly with someone, but he felt no joy.

Instead, he was filled with fear, and a cold sweat broke out on his back.

If he remember correctly Liang Hongyu could not read or write.

Getting a confirming response from his reaction, Liang Hongyu recalled that she hadn't paid much attention to his subtle changes.

Gong Banyun was a friend the original owner had met while working in town, and it was also him who had introduced her to the job at the dock.

It seemed that another manager had taken the opportunity to replace her with their own person.

The dock work required early departure and late return.

Liang Hongyu had planned to find an opportunity to resign from it anyway.

Earning sixty wens a day was quite a good job for the original owner, but Liang Hongyu was not the original owner.

She had her own way of surviving and couldn't follow the original owner's plans.

Coming back to her senses, Liang Hongyu saw Huo Tianzhou silently holding the charcoal with his head down.

She thought he was worried about her losing the job and not being able to support the household, so she said, "The dock job wasn't going to last long anyway. I'll find another job."

After thinking for a moment, she added, "Once I find new job, I probably won't have much time to come back. If there's anything that needs help at home, I'll hire someone to assist."

Hearing the implied meaning, Huo Tianzhou was silent for a moment before hesitantly writing a few words.

Liang Hongyu looked down at the words and, after a rare moment of silence, she did not answer directly: "I promised your mother I would take care of you."

Huo Tianzhou was unsure if Liang Hongyu would leave, but he still understood the unspoken words.

He gripped the charcoal tightly, finding it difficult to write what he wanted to say.

"You have grown up now, and you will need to marry someone who you truly love in the future. So, It's time for us to separate."

Seeing his hesitation, Liang Hongyu spoke first.

Huo Tianzhou seemed reluctant to agree, but after a brief silence, he nodded his head slightly.

Liang Hongyu didn't fully understand his reaction but didn't dwell on it.

To finalize their separation, they would need to go to the yamen, which couldn't be done immediately.

She continued, "Also, starting today, I will move to the room next door."
