Trouble Is Coming (Part 2)

"I started early and found a nest, so it's time to head back," Uncle Hong said with a smile, lifting his bamboo basket.

Suddenly remembering something, he quickly added, "Stay close to this area, and don't go too far. I ran into a black bear deeper in the woods this morning. Luckily, I reacted quickly, or I'd have more than just a muddy mess to deal with."

"Black bear?" Liang Hongyu's interest was piqued, "Uncle Hong, where exactly did you see it?"

"Don't be reckless. A black bear is not a pheasant or rabbit. If it gets aggressive, even ten of you wouldn't stand a chance!"

"Of course not. I just want to know where it is so I can avoid it."

"Over there," Uncle Hong pointed, "Black bears rarely come out this way. Just stay away from the deeper woods."

"Got it. I'll head in the opposite direction."

As Uncle Hong descended the mountain, Liang Hongyu went in the opposite direction he had indicated.

She wasn't aiming to hunt the black bear.

While her body was strong from the years of hard work she spent in the apocalypse era, it wasn't as strong as it had been.

Even if she managed to hunt a black bear, it would be difficult to carry it down the mountain.

However, black bears love honey and bee larvae and their keen sense of smell and hearing might lead her to a valuable find.

Honey was a rare and precious commodity here.

The area Uncle Hong pointed out was mostly visited by experienced hunters.

Liang Hongyu walked for half a day, noticing several traps and wild boar tracks but no signs of the black bear.

Finally, she selected a spot and set up two simple traps, and marking the area to prevent others from accidentally stepping on them.

Earlier, she had seen a few wild rabbits but had no suitable tools to catch them.

Liang Hongyu picked up several hard stones from the ground and found a patch of dense grass, about half a person's height.

Scanning the area, she picked up a hefty piece of wood and hurled it forcefully into a clump of grass.

The noise startled the pheasants hiding there and causing them to fly out in a panic.

Seizing the moment, she quickly threw the stones, and with two thuds, hit two of the birds.

Wild pheasants are hard to catch once they start running.

Liang Hongyu aimed for their legs and using enough force to incapacitate them.

One pheasant, despite a broken leg, still managed to flee quickly, but she finally caught it and the pheasant struggling fiercely in her grasp.

Using some weeds, Liang Hongyu wove a rope to tie up the pheasants and tossed them into her basket before continuing her exploration on the mountain.

When she saw more pheasants and wild rabbits, she refrained herself from hunting them.

With just her and Huo Tianzhou at home, they couldn't consume much, and wild animals was hard to come by for the villagers.
