Hunting The Wild Boar (Part 5)

The morning mist spread across the landscape, the distant uneven clusters of trees visible only as outlines.

The air was filled with the faint sound of insects and the quiet rustling of the wind.

In that environment, everyone tried to move as silently as possible.

Liang Hongyu and Wu Erlang followed Qian Huihong up the mountainside.

As they reached the midway point, Liang Hongyu faintly heard a sound in the wind that resembled the chewing of an animal.

As they walked further, the chewing sound became clearer.

Liang Hongyu tilted her head and pinpointed the exact location of the sound.

The two hunting dogs who were leading the way suddenly stopped, they lowered their front paws alongside their heads and their eyes were fixed intently on the front, emitting low growls as if they're preparing to attack.

Qian Huihong raised his hand and signaling everyone to stop.

Wild boars have a keen sense of smell and are very alert.

Once they catch the scent of hunters or hunting dogs, they will immediately flee.

With the wind in their favor, he gestured for everyone to quietly move forward.

He then patted the heads of the two hunting dogs, which retracted their aggressive stances and continued leading the way.

As the sky gradually brightened, after walking for over for a while, Liang Hongyu could already see two wild boars feeding in a low-lying area just outside the underbrush.

Wild boars make chewing sounds while eating, which diminishes their hearing.

Now was their chance to get closer.

It would be best to get within the bow and arrow range to set up an ambush.

Qian Huihong also spotted the wild boars, slowing his pace.

He crouched down and leading the group while making several hand signals.

The archers that was closest to him slowed down as well.

They're spreading out to encircle the wild boars.

The two hunting dogs very familiar with the terrain.

They silently approached the wild boars within a safe distance and then stopped, ready and waiting for their owner's command.

Hunting bows typically have a range of fifty to eighty meters.

Hitting a wild boar during the day is challenging and with the heavy fog, the effective range needed to be shortened to within ten meters for better accuracy.

Liang Hongyu stopped twenty meters from the wild boars and hiding behind a shrub.

The terrain here quite high and it was ideal for shooting.

She silently stepped on dry grass and stabilizing herself with one knee on the ground.

She then drew a bamboo arrow, nocked it on her bow, and pulled back the string.

Qian Huihong whose the closest one to the wild boars, quietly stopped about ten meters away and prepared to shoot.

Suddenly, the two wild boars stopped eating, lifted their heads, and scanned their surroundings with their ears pricked.

The next second, they turned art and ran.

The two hunting dogs sprang forward in pursuit and quickly disappeared from sight.

Liang Hongyu put away her wooden bow and quickly followed them.

The dense fog obscured her vision, and she could only hear the frantic barking of the dogs and the sound of the wild boars fleeing ahead.

From the other side of the mountainside, intense barking suddenly erupted too.

Another team had also encountered wild boars.

Unable to ambush the boars, they had no choice to face them head-on.

Even if they couldn't capture them, they needed to scare them away from coming down the mountain to forage again.

After the dogs chased after the wild boars, Qian Huihong also quickly followed them.

He soon noticed that Liang Hongyu, who had been positioned to his side and behind him, had somehow sprinted ahead, leaving him far behind.

There was no time for Qian Huihong to think about it; he continued the chase.

When Qian Huihong and his group finally caught up, they saw the hunting dogs had cornered a wild boar, which was now fighting back.

"Everyone spread out and take cover! Archers, wait for the right moment to shoot!" Qian Huihong ordered.

As the wild boar tried to escape, one of the hunting dogs lunged and bit its leg, being dragged along and leaving deep furrows in the ground.

Unable to shake off the dog, the wild boar turned around to attack.

The dog leaped aside just in time, and the dogs surrounded the boar, barking and holding their ground.

The chaotic scene made it difficult to shoot; any mistake could injure the dogs.

The archers held their drawn bows, hesitant to released it.

Qian Huihong saw an opening and whistled sharply, calling the dogs away.

Liang Hongyu had already maneuvered to the side of the wild boar, using the tree roots for cover as she drew her bow, aiming at the heart of one of the wild boars, preparing to shoot.

Someone released an arrow just before Qian Huihong blew his whistle.

As the dogs retreated, the arrow struck one of the wild boars on its back.

Startled, the boar bolted, causing the following arrows to miss their target.

These were two fully grown male boars, with thick fat and tough skin.

Without hitting a vital spot, arrows had little effect on them.

One wild boar, frightened, charged back, with two hunting dogs flanking it to stop it.

Meanwhile, the other boar charged towards Qian Huizhong's hiding spot.

The boar spotted him and rushed straight at him.

Wild boars have powerful forelimbs and can run very fast.

By the time Qian Huizhong saw the boar, it was only a few meters away, ready to gore him in the next instant.

"Quick, get out of the way!" Qian Huihong shouted.

Liang Hongyu whonis standing on the opposite side, closest to Qian Huizhong, ran as the boar charged.

As the boar reached a few meters from Qian Huizhong, she skillfully released an arrow, which pierced through the boar's neck but didn't stop its momentum.

Everything happened too fast for Qian Huizhong to react.

In the blink of an eye, the boar was upon him.
