Chapter 144 - Shadow Monarch's Dungeon 02.

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Romania.

...

...

Snape took the first step, advancing across the throne room, while the knight stood beside the chair of some king Snape had no idea who might be, though the knight was clearly guarding the seat while holding his sword, its tip resting on the ground. He stood in a guard position, his gaze fixed on Snape, with the slit in his helmet gleaming where his eyes should have been.

"A type of guard... Is there no king here?" Snape murmured, walking calmly, though sensing this was no ordinary figure due to the strength he emanated.

"He must be as powerful as Dracula," Snape concluded.

Then, the knight made his first move, stepping forward as he descended the throne's stairs. He stopped in front of Snape and raised his sword. It was clearly a challenge to the intruder.

"I see... Very well," Snape said as his own sword began to materialize in his hand, surrounded by crackling lightning. He kept his serious gaze and prepared to fight, mirroring the knight's stance.

It was as if both acknowledged each other as warriors. In the next moment, without a word exchanged, they both kicked off the ground, rushing toward the center of the room. Their blades rose and clashed, producing a metallic clang. It was a test of strength between them. The blades sparked under the intense pressure both exerted, but neither yielded.

"I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, with you being the boss of this dungeon," Snape murmured, holding his ground, evenly matched against the knight. This was entirely different from the first dungeon boss he had faced—a wolf in the earlier levels that had startled the system a year ago.

A moment later, both stepped back, taking a few paces before launching themselves forward again, delivering new strikes. In the blink of an eye, their swords began moving at high speed, clashing repeatedly as they sought openings, while the area around them was enveloped in small sparks from their superhuman movements.

Chaos quickly took over the room. The surrounding pillars began to suffer blows from their blades. One of the pillars, weakened, gave way and collapsed on top of the dueling pair. Both quickly moved aside, and the explosion of stones spread across the area, raising dust.

From within the smoke, the knight leapt, charging toward Snape, who kept his guard steady.

"This is certainly entertaining. It's been a while since I've found a worthy opponent with a blade," declared Snape, a satisfied smile on his face. In this world, no one knew how to wield a blade as a weapon, while their swords clashed again, Snape's expression glowing with exhilaration.

The knight was relentless in his attempts to defeat him, but Snape managed to create some distance. He swiftly drew his wand, pointing it at his adversary, and fired a bolt of lightning in his direction. However, the knight deftly dodged, twisting his body.

"He really does have quick reflexes," Snape murmured, intrigued by the enemy's skill.

He watched as the knight raised his hand. Suddenly, the stones from the fallen pillar began to move. Using telekinesis, the knight hurled the stones at Snape. But Snape reacted in time, using his wand to teleport away, avoiding the impact.

"You have your tricks," Snape praised, staring at the knight as the latter prepared to launch another attack.

Once again, the clash of swords echoed throughout the room. Snape carried the experience of his past life, but the muscle memory of this body was not as precise as the movements ingrained in his memories. The knight, on the other hand, while slightly inferior to the original swordsmanship of Morou Kaind, compensated with more experience and complete mastery of his own body—far better than Snape had.

With equal speed and strength, the knight even managed to gain an advantage at certain moments. However, Snape had the benefit of his teleportation, and the knight's telekinesis was not as effective against that, giving Snape an additional edge in the fight.

"If I had come here at level 45, I'd be in trouble..." Snape murmured as he fought intensely against the knight.

The knight used telekinesis on a pillar, causing it to collapse beside Snape. However, before the impact reached him, Snape vanished, reappearing on the opposite side of the throne room. He lifted some fallen stones with his wand and pointed them at the knight.

All the pieces began transforming into swords through transfiguration and were quickly launched at the knight. He managed to deflect some with telekinesis, but the sheer number was overwhelming. The next moment, he felt the impact on his armor, which was dented in multiple places.

Seizing the opportunity, Snape appeared beside the knight. The latter tried to retaliate but had the fingers of one hand severed by Snape's blade, forcing him to drop his sword and retreat, clutching his injured hand.

Snape observed him curiously as the knight, though wounded, straightened himself once more, raising his hand toward the sword. As it began to move, a foot stomped down on the weapon, Snape preventing it from leaving the ground. Despite the knight's apparent effort to pull the sword back, Snape held firm.

"You want your sword back?" Snape mocked.

The knight, giving up on it, assumed a fighting stance with his fists—even though several fingers on one hand were missing.

"Interesting..." Snape commented. He kept his foot on the sword for a moment, then kicked it upward. The weapon disappeared, vanishing into his system along with the goblin metal sword and wand, leaving him equally unarmed.

"If you want to keep fighting, then let's do it fairly," Snape said, smiling as if enjoying the situation. He raised his fists, assuming a hand-to-hand combat stance.

In the next moment, the knight charged, aiming a blow at Snape's head. Snape skillfully ducked, as if in slow motion, and delivered a straight punch to the knight's armored ribs, denting them. Before the knight could react, Snape landed another punch on his helmet, sending him flying several meters back, rolling across the throne room.

"You might be good with a sword, but in hand-to-hand combat, I have the advantage," Snape declared, his confident smile unwavering as he watched the knight struggle to rise.

Despite clearly being at a disadvantage, the knight did not give up. He prepared himself and charged again, and a fierce hand-to-hand fight began. Yet once more, the knight began to suffer under Snape's relentless blows.

Each punch further dented the knight's armor. He tried using telekinesis to create some distance, but Snape grabbed his arm with one hand and delivered an uppercut with his right fist at the same spot, causing the knight's arm to bend and ultimately break.

The knight was thrown over Snape's shoulder and crashed to the ground. He struggled to rise. His armor was completely mangled, and he could barely stay on his feet.

"I must admit, your resilience is quite admirable. But it's over," Snape said as his sword reappeared in his hand.

In the next moment, he advanced on the knight, who attempted to stop him with his one remaining hand. Snape seized the knight's arm, pushing it aside. With his sword in the other hand, he plunged the blade directly into the knight's heart, piercing through his armor with ease. He withdrew the blade immediately, and the knight fell to his knees, unable to continue.

Snape said nothing more. He sheathed his sword and turned to face the throne. There were no other exits in the room, so he waited for the system's response—and it came.

[Congratulations! You have defeated the knight Igris.]

[You Leveled Up!]

[You Leveled Up!]

[You Leveled Up!]

"Igris..." Snape murmured, glancing at the fallen knight as the system continued, informing him that he had now reached level 57.

[Congratulations! You have received a Return Stone. You may return to the exit upon breaking it,] the system announced as a green stone appeared in his hands.

Another message appeared shortly after:

[Congratulations! You have acquired the Monarch's Touch Skill Stone. Break it to receive the skill.]

Snape read the message, holding the two stones that had fallen into his hands — the Return Stone and the Skill Stone.

"It's not just this, is it?" he murmured, slightly disappointed as he reflected. Despite defeating the knight, gaining a skill, and leveling up, he felt that it couldn't be all for such an important dungeon.

Then, without warning, a new voice echoed through the room.

"Monarch's Trial commencing."

Snape looked up and saw a countdown timer appear in glowing letters in the middle of the space. It wasn't from the system, but from the dungeon itself.

"You must survive waves of knights, mages, and archers. Defeat as many as you can and endure as long as possible to claim the dungeon's rewards," he read aloud as the words appeared in the air.

In the next moment, the countdown began, and portals opened around the room. Dozens of knights, mages, and archers emerged — similar to the ones he had faced before, but now in much greater numbers. Around 400 adversaries began to fill the throne room.

"So, I have to defeat them," Snape murmured, glancing at the Return Stone before making it disappear into the system. He saw no point in using it, confident he could handle the situation.

Snape took the Skill Stone and crushed it. The system announced:

[Congratulations! You have acquired the Telekinesis skill.]

It was the same ability the red knight had used, and Snape felt satisfied with this.

"Well, this seems interesting," he murmured, feeling the skill settle into his mind. It would be extremely useful to possess such an ability without relying on magic. It offered numerous advantages in this wizarding world, especially since no one could detect its use, as it didn't stem from the same kind of magic known here.

The knights began surrounding him. Snape focused on a group of three and raised his hand. Instantly, all three were lifted off the ground through telekinesis as he used the ability for the first time. With a flick of his wrist, Snape crushed their heads and let their lifeless bodies drop to the floor.

Pleased with the skill, he quickly noticed something strange. The bodies of the knights he had defeated began to rise again, shrouded in death magic.

Snape looked to the back of the room and saw mages casting necromancy to reanimate the fallen knights.

'I see... So I need to deal with them first,' he thought as he summoned his sword into one hand and held his wand in the other, ready to charge.

However, something caught his attention. The knights began parting, making way for someone who was walking toward Snape. He stopped immediately, his curiosity giving way to shock as he saw who was approaching.

It was Morou Kaind, the Guardian of Order — his former self, before inhabiting Severus Snape's body.

"It's good to see you... my self," said Morou, speaking in the same voice Snape had before the body switch.

"How is this possible..." Snape said in a dark tone, staring at his former self.
