Chapter 249: It's good to be back

For now, though, those plans would have to wait. There was a more pressing matter to attend to—opening a permanent portal to Nazarick.

Albedo was no doubt waiting for my return, likely pacing with an eager smile as she anticipated my arrival. Nazarick's strength and resources were invaluable, and establishing a stable connection to my home base in this world was the next logical step.

That was why I was back on Mount Natagumo.

The mountain had once been infested with demons, but the Demon Slayer Corps had wiped them out during one of their missions. Now it stood empty, its eerie silence making it the perfect location for my task.

No wandering Demon Slayers or demons to interfere—just an isolated, desolate place where I could work in peace. Shalltear was with me, she stood by my side, her crimson eyes scanning the area for potential threats. Lupusregina and Yuki were back at the Butterfly Mansion, tending to other matters.

As I surveyed the clearing I'd chosen, Shalltear broke the silence. "Master, are you sure this is the right location? This place is too dirty to open a portal to Nazarick."

"It's ideal," I replied, glancing at her with a smirk. "The remnants of demon energy in this place make it less conspicuous. If anyone stumbles upon the traces of the gate, they'll assume it's leftover demonic energy."

Shalltear nodded, her confidence in my decision unwavering. "Very well. I will remain on guard while you proceed."

Turning my attention back to the task, I closed my eyes and summoned my system interface. The translucent menu materialized before me, displaying the familiar options and resources available to me. This process required burning Karma Points—a resource I accumulated from defeating enemies, completing challenges, and fulfilling tasks.

{Do you wish to open a gate to Nazarick?} my system prompted.

{Accept,} I replied without hesitation.

Immediately, I felt the drain as 40,000 Karma Points were deducted from my total. It was a hefty price, but one I was willing to pay. Nazarick's resources and support were invaluable, and the advantage of having a permanent portal in this world was worth every point.

As always, the process was devoid of any unnecessary theatrics. No blinding flashes of light or earth-shaking tremors. A dark vortex began to form in front of me, its swirling energy pulling at the edges of reality.

It expanded steadily until it was large enough for a person—or an entire army—to step through. The gate's presence was subtle yet imposing; anyone from a mile away can sense the heavy aura of this gate.

Of course, I will hide its aura using one of the items from the shop.

In DXD world, the portal was in my apartment; therefore, it does not need a specific guard, but now that its in the middle forest, I need to place some protection. My summons should be sufficient or maybe I should place [Nazarick's Old Guards] around gate.

Shalltear watched the vortex with a mixture of awe and reverence. "As magnificent as ever, my lord. Nazarick's touch is unmistakable."

I smiled faintly. "It's been too long since I last stepped foot inside. Let's see how they've been doing in my absence."

With that, I stepped forward, crossing the threshold of the gate. The air around me shifted, and in an instant, the world of Demon Slayer disappeared, replaced by the grandeur of Nazarick's central chamber. The change was almost disorienting. One moment, I was surrounded by the quiet wilderness of Mount Natagumo; the next, I stood in the heart of my domain.

Albedo was already waiting for me, as I'd expected. She stood at the base of the throne, her golden eyes gleaming with devotion. Her pristine white dress and radiant smile gave her an angelic appearance, though I knew the fiery passion and intensity that lay beneath. She bowed deeply as I approached.

"Welcome back, my lord," she said, her voice filled with warmth. "We have been eagerly awaiting your return."

Behind her stood Demiurge, his sharp gaze and ever-present smile betraying his calculative mind. It seems they were discussing something right before my arrival.

"It's good to be back," I said.
