Chapter 258: Kagaya

Kagaya

Kagaya Ubuyashiki sat calmly in his chamber, the gentle rustle of the wind outside the wisteria-lined estate filling the silence. His serene expression betrayed none of the storm of thoughts running through his mind.

The news had come just moments ago—one of Muzanette's Upper Moons had been slain. The perpetrator? Alex, the enigmatic outsider who now resided within the Butterfly Mansion.

The faint sound of approaching footsteps broke Kagaya's reverie. The sliding door opened, revealing Kiriya, his son, who bowed respectfully before speaking. "Father, the Hashira are gathered as you requested."

Kagaya nodded, his pale, sightless eyes turning toward the source of his son's voice. "Thank you, Kiriya. Bring them in."

One by one, the Hashira entered the chamber: Giyu, Rengoku, Sanemi, Mitsuri, Tengen, Muichiro, and Gyomei. Their presence filled the room with an unspoken tension. Each carried the weight of countless battles, and now, they awaited the reason for this sudden assembly.

After a moment of silence, Kagaya began, his voice soft yet commanding. "Thank you all for coming on such short notice. I have received word of a remarkable event—one that may signal a turning point in our battle against Muzanette."

The Hashira exchanged glances, curiosity and apprehension evident in their expressions. It was Sanemi who broke the silence. "What happened?"

"An Upper Moon has been killed," Kagaya said, his words hanging in the air like a thunderclap. "Not by one of us, but by Alex."

The room fell into stunned silence. Even Tengen, who usually carried himself with an air of flamboyant indifference, appeared genuinely surprised.

"An Upper Moon?!" Sanemi's voice was filled with disbelief. "Are you certain?"

Kagaya nodded. "The information comes from Shinobu, herself. It was Gyokko, the fifth Upper Moon, who was slain."

Rengoku's eyes blazed with intensity. "Alex... That man is truly remarkable. To think he could achieve such a feat in short period of time. After all he arrived not so long ago."

"Remarkable?" Sanemi growled, his tone skeptical. "We don't even know what he really is. He's no ordinary human, that much is clear. And now he's taken down an Upper Moon? I am telling you guys, I get creeps everytime I see him, my guts are telling me to cautious against him more than demons."

"Alex's strength is undeniable. I fought him myself and saw firsthand the depths of his power. But we still know little of his intentions." Giyu said.

"Exactly," Sanemi said, his voice laced with suspicion. "What if he's not as benevolent as he seems? We've welcomed him into our ranks, but what if we've invited a greater danger into our midst?"

"Sanemi," Kagaya said gently, "your concerns are valid, I also think that he is not benevolent as he appear to be. But he has proven his willingness to fight alongside us, and his actions have already brought us closer to our ultimate goal. For now, we should focus on that."

Muichiro, the Mist Hashira, who had been silent until now, spoke in his usual detached manner. "If he can kill an Upper Moon, then perhaps we should focus on learning from him. Whatever techniques or abilities he possesses could give us the edge we need."

Kagaya smiled faintly. "That is precisely why I have allowed Alex and his companions to remain at the Butterfly Mansion. Shinobu will monitor their presence closely, and in time, we may gain a clearer understanding of their capabilities."

Tengen crossed his arms, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Speaking of his companions, what about them? That maid and the other one—what are their roles in all this? They haven't shown any of their abilities yet."

"Indeed," Kagaya replied. "They remain an enigma. But if Alex's power is any indication, we must assume that his allies are equally formidable."

Rengoku leaned forward, his voice filled with conviction. "Regardless of who Alex and his companions truly are, one fact remains: they have dealt a significant blow to Muzanette. This is our opportunity to strike harder than ever before. We must capitalize on this moment."

Gyomei clasped his hands in prayer. "If Alex has slain one of Muzanette's elites, her retaliation will be swift and brutal. We must prepare ourselves for what is to come."

"Well said, Gyomei. Just like he said. Muzanette's forces will be on high alert, and any misstep could cost us dearly. For now, I ask that you focus on training and preparing for the battles ahead. Alex's actions have bought us time, but we must use it wisely."

The Hashira nodded in unison.
