Bethany's POV
I had made plenty of reckless decisions in my life.
This one? This one might just take the cake.
Sneaking into Mason's dungeon was like willingly stepping into the mouth of a dragon and hoping it wouldn't bite down. It was stupid. It was dangerous. It was exactly the kind of thing that would get me caught and punished.
And I didn't care.
Emily had been locked down here for hours. No explanation. No trial. Just thrown into a dark, damp cell because Mason had decided she was guilty of something.
I had to see her. Had to hear the truth from her own mouth.
The guards were easy to get past—too easy. A well-timed tray of drinks and a fake message from Mason himself had sent them scurrying off, leaving me just enough time to slip through the heavy dungeon doors and creep down the stone steps.
