Chapter 55: Police Station Mayhem

"The chief is shot, the chief is shot!"

With a gunshot, the Fourth Division plunged into chaos. Sheriff George, holding the gun, laughed. Everyone saw him move his arm, aiming the gun again, but before he could lock on another target, the lights flickered and went out.

When the light returned, it was from the gunfire.

The flash from the muzzle lit up Sheriff George's grinning face for an instant. Another officer was hit, and darkness fell again.

The delegations were in disarray. Someone pulled out a gun and aimed into the dark but didn't know where to shoot. They couldn't see, but George seemed to know where each of them was, as if the darkness didn't affect him at all.

His crazy laughter echoed, like surround sound in a theater, making it impossible to tell where it was coming from.

Someone took out his phone to use the flashlight, but as soon as the screen lit up, the muzzle flash appeared again. A bullet pierced through another officer, splattering blood on the phone's cracked screen.

"Over there!"

Someone yelled and fired in the direction of the gunfire. But the only response was a scream from another deputy; they had hit a fellow officer.

George's laughter grew louder. "Ha, nice shot! Was that you, Li? You always had good aim."

"God, I didn't mean to...uhhh!"

This time, it wasn't gunfire but the sound of a knife tearing flesh. The voice of Officer Lao Li stopped abruptly in the darkness, replaced by horrifying laughter.

Then came the sound of a body hitting the floor.

Lao Li's screams echoed in everyone's heart like a curse. More than half the people were terrified, and it all felt unreal, like a nightmare.

No one ever imagined they would face something like this at the Sheriff's Department. In the blink of an eye, this small police station turned into a cage, trapping them with the most brutal and terrifying monsters.

What people fear most is the unknown, and this scene captured that perfectly. Darkness is the breeding ground for fear. Death was everywhere, passing by again and again, with people around falling one by one. Each time, the survivors were pushed closer to the abyss of fear.

That was more frightening than death itself. They were forced to stare into the abyss of despair, feeling as if a demon was devouring their spirits. Everyone was on the edge of losing their minds.

It was only a matter of time before someone snapped.

"Go to hell!"

Sheriff Richard fired wildly in Brenda's direction. The muzzle flash lit up the space for a moment, but George was nowhere to be seen. One stray bullet grazed a colleague's cheek, causing them to scream.

"Stop, Sheriff!" someone yelled. "You're gonna hit one of us!"

But Richard ignored them. He kept shooting, cursing under his breath, "You think I'm scared of you? Come on! I'm right here!"

The mocking laughter continued, echoing around them.

Another sheriff groaned as a bullet hit his gun. Richard didn't care. He kept turning and firing at every shadow, seemingly unconcerned about hitting his own men.

"Damn it, I told you to stop!"

One of the sheriffs couldn't take it anymore. He raised his gun and shot Richard, hitting him square in the chest. Richard fell to the side, a look of disbelief on his face.

The laughter grew louder, mocking the chaos.

It was a grim irony. Colleagues who worked together day and night turned their guns on each other in the face of a common enemy.

George laughed heartily in the dark, but then he stopped abruptly. When he turned, he saw a tall, imposing figure—a black bat—standing silently next to him, so close he could almost hear it breathing.

Without thinking, he raised his arm just as the sharp bat dart struck. The blade sliced through his arm, even chipping bone.

George staggered back, grinning oddly. "Ha, it's you..."

Before he could finish, Batman hit him, sending him flying backward and smashing a desk in two.

Chu Cheng chose Batman because he was the fastest among his heroes. The gliding cloak and grappling gun were already quick, but today he didn't come alone.

This time, he drove the Batmobile.

The Batmobile's performance is legendary. Even race cars can't compare when it's at full power. With jet propulsion, it can even fly over roofs and drive up walls. In "Batman Begins," the Batmobile's rooftop chase stunned the entire Gotham Police Department.

Using the Batmobile, Chu Cheng got Batman to the scene in record time.

As soon as George hit the ground, he raised his gun, the muzzle flash briefly lighting up the room. But the spot he aimed at was already empty.

When George stood up, Batman was behind him, grabbing his arm. George laughed, twisted his arm, and aimed his gun at Batman's head.

Batman dodged the gunshot by tilting his head, grabbed the assailant's arm, raised his knee, and knocked the pistol away, then twisted the gun-wielding arm.

The infected person didn't feel pain, so he tried to kick at Batman. Batman countered with a swift kick, breaking the attacker's leg, then kicked him repeatedly in the chest. George felt a crushing force and was sent flying, landing hard as the nearby sheriffs scattered.

George wasn't done yet. He laughed maniacally, crawling up with his broken body, still trying to attack. Before he could stand, Batman threw a gel bomb at his feet. It exploded and quickly expanded, trapping George in solid gel and immobilizing him.

He finally stopped.
