Chapter 97: Choas On the Airship

Boom!

An explosion resounded throughout the aircraft. Immediately after, the aircraft carrier began to shake from the shockwaves.

A sharp siren blared through the ship, piercing everyone's ears.

The command room erupted into chaos. Chairman Li Changcheng's face appeared on the big screen, his expression stern and his voice quick and commanding.

"What's going on?" he asked coldly.

"We're under attack," someone in the command room reported. "There's an unknown assailt attacking the left wing!"

Although many had suspected an attack, hearing it confirmed was still shocking. This ship was supposed to be the safest place in the world, with an impenetrable security system. The early warning system should have detected any threat from miles away.

But instead, the radar was showing nothing, and the security system seemed to be failing. Li Changcheng briefly considered sending the security chief to the frontier to grow potatoes, given the state of their defenses.

"The third engine room is on fire!" someone shouted. "The fire might spread and overheat the engine..."

Li Changcheng's eyes narrowed. He quickly began organizing a response to the fire. Keeping the engine intact was crucial, or the ship could crash from thousands of feet up, leading to disaster.

Before he could issue further orders, another explosion hit the ship.

The ship shook again, and the big screen in the command room flickered and went dark. Li Changcheng's image vanished, and the screen now reflected the chaotic scene in the room like a dark mirror, mocking their situation.

A metal door panel blasted open, hitting an agent, sending him flying. Figures rushed through the damaged doorway, landing on all fours with twisted limbs, moving like reptiles. They were infected people.

Agents quickly drew their guns and fired, but the infected people dodged the bullets with surprising speed.

Special agents with enhanced abilities rushed to block the infected people, engaging in a fierce battle. More infected people poured in from the blasted entrance, turning the command room into chaos.

"Infected people have boarded! Repeat, infected people have boarded the mothership."

The correspondent issued an urgent alarm to all agents on the ship. But no one responded; only eerie whispers came through the headsets, like the wind rustling through dark woods or a ghostly murmur.

Meanwhile, agents across the ship tried to reach the command post but heard similar unsettling whispers in their headsets.

Agent Felix Grove, who had just finished a routine report, was walking down the aisle of the ship, preparing to return to the ground.

When the second blast hit, Felix's foot gave way, and at the same time, the lights in the corridor went out.

Gunshots and fighting noises erupted from around the corner ahead.

This made him uneasy.

Felix stood up in the dark. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust, and he could barely make out the corridor's outline. He tried to contact the command room through his headset but only heard disturbing whispers.

The fighting sounds from ahead stopped, and Felix didn't know what had happened. He swallowed hard, trying to calm himself, and cautiously pulled out his pistol, ready to move through the dark corridor.

A cold draft brushed against the back of his neck.

Felix froze and quickly turned his head, his eyes wide with fear.

A woman was hanging upside down from the ceiling, her long hair dangling, and a snake-like tongue sticking out from her mouth. She stared at him with a chilling gaze.

"Over there!"

A team of agents raced through the narrow hallway towards the spot where the first explosion had occurred.

The aircraft had a gap blown open from that direction, and an unidentified aircraft had flown in through that hole. Many infected people had breached the aircraft from that gap.

The breach was near the power room, and the fire from the explosion threatened one of the mothership's engines. Though the engine was still running, no one knew what would happen if the problem wasn't fixed soon.

The agents were running at top speed, staying alert. They knew infected people had come in through the aircraft, so they expected to encounter many of them on the way to the power room.

They were prepared for a fight, but things turned out differently than expected.

When the agents reached the gap, they didn't find the grotesque infected they anticipated. Instead, there was just one person who looked normal and even a bit elegant.

He wore a classy tuxedo, looking more like he was attending a fancy event than invader. He carried a cane and wore a mask with a swirling hypnotic design.

He moved slowly and calmly towards them.

Despite his seemingly non-threatening appearance, the agents didn't hesitate. The moment they saw him, they raised their guns and fired.

The gunshots echoed loudly in the narrow corridor.

The agents fired pistols and powerful rifles, but nothing worked.

The bullets seemed to slow down and swerve away from the masked man as if they were deliberately avoiding him.

The masked man paused, then turned his cane in his hand and slammed it on the floor.

A transparent shockwave erupted, pulling the agents into an invisible vortex.

They felt gravity vanish, their bodies floating uncontrollably. Everything around them began to fall apart. The metal walls and floor tore apart like paper, and the corridor collapsed rapidly. The mothership seemed to be dismantled into a sky of metal fragments.

The ground beneath them was also sucked away, and they began to fall thousands of feet, the long drop feeling endless.

The masked man continued moving forward, as if strolling through his backyard.

Soon after, Chen Meiyue appeared before him.

"Did you get the items?" the masked man asked.

"On the way," Chen Meiyue replied, showing a small card—it was Professor Miyazaki's ID card. "It'll take a bit more time. You should keep them busy."

"Of course," the masked man said, casually waving his cane. "It's a piece of cake."
