Chapter 157: Combos

Looks like the freezing grenades aren't working either.

The freeze tech from Mr. Freeze, battle-tested by Batman himself, was supposed to work. When the grenade exploded, it created an ice-blue flash, and the sharp drop in temperature froze everything instantly. But it only lasted a second.

Cracks spread all over Leng Ji's body, and the ice shattered with a mournful cry. Shards flew everywhere like glass. Leng Ji burst out from the ice core again, as stubborn and relentless as ever. He was determined to defeat his opponent, refusing to stay frozen.

Batman just stood there, looking him straight in the eye. He didn't dodge or even flinch. Batman met Leng Ji's gaze calmly, as if he had everything under control.

To Leng Ji, this was more than provocation. It was like Batman was saying, "I'm not worried about you. You're not a threat." That level of contempt enraged Leng Ji. The anger took over his actions, leaving only one desire in his mind:

— rip that bat mask to shreds.

Leng Ji was stronger than anyone. He wouldn't lose again, especially not to some guy dressed as a bat.

But he was so focused on Batman's face that he didn't notice what was happening beside him.

"Watch out, incoming!" came a voice.

Wham.

A red and blue blur shot out, and Spider-Man swung from Batman's side. He delivered a flying kick right to Leng Ji's face.

It was like a bus hitting a tree. Leng Ji went flying from the impact of Spider-Man's kick, proving that not even his head was as tough as a bus.

Batman countered with an elbow strike, enhanced by his power armor, hitting Leng Ji in the face. Leng Ji staggered but quickly retaliated with an uppercut.

However, Batman's armor was connected directly to his nervous system, boosting his reaction time. He leaned back, narrowly avoiding the punch that almost brushed the tip of his nose.

As Leng Ji's punch missed, Batman took the opportunity to throw his own punch. Leng Ji raised his arm to block it, and the impact created a metallic clang, sparks flying from the contact.

Leng Ji lightly punched Batman's head to push him back, then followed up with an uppercut. Although quick, Leng Ji's punch lacked power and only glanced off Batman's helmet. Batman steadied himself, blocked Leng Ji's forearm, and grabbed his arm, aiming to throw him over his shoulder.

The two traded blows rapidly. Leng Ji was clearly losing the fight in terms of technique, but he managed to stabilize himself with brute strength. He shoved forward with all his might, breaking Batman's grip and knocking him back.

Suddenly, black tentacles sprang out, like some kind of living creature, wrapping around Batman's throat.

"Allen system activated," Batman's suit announced.

Batman's body vibrated at the atomic level, turning him into a gray and black blur that slipped right through the tentacles. At the same moment, a huge shadow loomed overhead with the sound of rushing wind.

"Looks like I'm rockin' a new weapon!" Spider-Man shouted as he swung through the air on his web. In his other hand, he was pulling a heavy boulder. He swung it down with all his strength, crashing it into the ground.

The boulder smashed into the earth, creating a massive hole and pinning both Batman and Leng Ji underneath it.

Batman, in atomic oscillation mode, passed through the stone without a scratch, emerging the next second without a speck of dust on him.

"Spider-Bat team, ten points! Ugly villains, zero!" Spider-Man quipped, gesturing to his teammate. As usual, Batman ignored him.

A loud bang echoed as a gap blasted through the stone. A dark figure stepped out, with wounds healing automatically.

Spider-Man's mask eyes widened. "Whoa, what are you made of? You're tough!"

"His defense repairs itself quickly," Friday said. "We need a faster, continuous attack. The power of the Allen system is low. Re-planning combat strategy…"

"I've got an idea," Chu Cheng said.

Just then, Leng Ji charged again. Spider-Man shot a web across his face, temporarily blinding him. Leng Ji tore off the web, but when he looked up, both Batman and Spider-Man were gone.

"Over here!" a voice shouted from above. By the time Leng Ji heard it, it was too late. He heard a whistling sound and, having already experienced one sneak attack, quickly dodged Spider-Man's flying kick.

Leng Ji smirked. Did they really think the same move would work twice?

Wham!

As he relaxed, a powerful kick hit him square in the lower back, sending him flying. He struggled to look back and saw a girl in a white hood swinging on a web, delivering a kick just like Spider-Man's. The impact launched him into the air.

It was Spider-Gwen.
