Just call it magic

"Seth-san?..."

Seth sighed deeply as Asami's shrill voice broke the silence once again. It seemed like she had caught her breath and had prepared another round of irrelevant questions. Were children really like this?

"Yeah?"

"Is my mama and papa going to adopt you?"

The black haired youth raised his brow in confusion. He had no idea where this question was coming from. Firstly, he was an adult already and was well capable of taking care of himself and secondly, he had lived alone for the past five years. But still, he could not bear burst her bubble and say no.

"I dunno, I'm kinda too old."

The little girl beamed brightly and put her hands on her waist.

"If they do, then I'm going to be your big sister, and you're going to call me Nee-san from now on."

"Really?" Seth smiled as he replied.

"Uh huh! I'll be the first child, and you'll be the second one."

"But I'm at least fourteen years older than you?"

The pink haired girl tilted her head slightly in amusing confusion..

"What's a years?'

Seth chuckled lightly at the little girl's ignorance. He had forgotten that in this world, they counted each season individually and did not group them all into one year like they did on earth. Here, there were no months or years, just seconds, minutes, hours, days and seasons.

Anyways, now that they were at the top of the hill, it was time to put old man Shiro's theory to the test.

'But what do I do about her?'

He could not do what he was planning on doing with her staring at him like that. Unlike the MCs he had read about, he really had a good reason to hide the powers he had gotten, as he would be unalived the moment people found out about him.

"Uh, Asami?"

"Yeah, Seth-san?"

"Why don't you go explore the hill and see if you can find anything interesting?"

"Okie!"

The little girl ran off into the distance where her unending questions and her watchful eye would pose no problem to him, but not so far that she could be out of his sight. For a few days now, her family had cared for him, and he was not going to repay them by losing their daughter was he?

So as the little girl indulged herself with staring deeply at every rock, plant, and insect, Seth closed his eyes and tried to feel around his energy.

Like almost every eastern fantasy reader, the concept of qigong had intrigued him. Thus he knew quite a bit on the chinese breathing techniques, and tried to apply them in this case. With every deep breath, he could feel a distinct tingle in his chest. That was probably the essence of the ancient scroll itself. Seth closed his eyes, and found himself in an unending expanse of pitch black. However, in the middle of the dark landscape, a bunch of white sparks floated around. Out of curiosity, Seth tried to touch them but they turned out to be ethereal and passed right through his hand.

'Interesting.'

He then tried making it move by willing it to move, and move it did. It moved up and down, and left and right according to his will. Seth smiled as he watched it with interest. It was finally time to put old man Shiro's theory to use.

He clenched his fist and willed the white sparks to become a weapon he was familiar with, a set of obsidian black daggers. The white sparks swirled about here and there, furiously resisting his will this time around. This was very weird, as a few seconds ago, they were obediently going as he wished. However, Seth world not just give up on his first very. On earth, hr had given up since nothing worked for him at all. He had given up, as the circumstances did not give him a choice. But here, here he had a choice, no he had witnessed it work before, and would not hesitate to make it work again. A furious battle of wits took place within the black haired youth's soul, as he forced the white sparks to coagulate into a weapon with his mind, and the white sparks resisted as hard as they could. Why should they obey him? He was merely a cultivator of the body awakening stage, and his Qi was laughable. Their former master was at the peak of the Qi refinement tier, and would soon breakthrough into the Yin/Yang awakening tier. They had resisted their former powerful master, and they would prevail over this weak one. However, their weak master's will was unwavering and no matter how hard they tried, they found themselves coerced into the shape of a beautifully encrusted knife. Seth heaved a deep sigh of relief as he panted hard. That had taken quite a toll on his mind. He had always been able to focus better than other people back when he was an honor roll student in school, and now he had seen a good use for his uncanny ability.

"I... I did it.."

Seth stared at the obsidian knife lying in his palms as he took deep breaths to calm his heart. He had dived into his soul realm, battled the essence of the scroll itself, and emerged with a new weapon. Despite looking like the obsidian daggers that his system had crafted for him, he could tell that these pair were very different. They lacked the sickening aura of an ascended tier beast of the second stage, but he could feel a far more powerfully aura emanating from it. It was so powerful that even the grass around him leaned towards his position.

"Seth-san! Where did that come from?"

Asami had her eyes enlarged into massive orbs and her face turned pale white. Her green eyes were fixated on the knife in his hands, and a shocked expression was etched on her face. Seth sheepishly scratched the back of his head not knowing what to say. He had forgotten his unwanted guest that had tagged along.

"Uh... It's magic?"
