Chapter 24: Forest Ambush 4 Hidden Truth

Eri screamed again dislodging the knife from his gut and watching his blood leak out of him.

"Stop yelling!" One soldier yelled angrily at him with such rudeness they tore Eri's heart.

'I got stabbed and he says this!'

Eri managed to land his gave on Carl and he recieved a signal that urged him to scream again.

Well his wound was already closing quickly and the pain instantly became bearable.

'Thanks to my regeneration, the pain subsides fast, but I should really focus on the mission.'

Eri made sure to take enough air into his gut as he had been thought in music class at some point, he then released it forcefully in a shriek that he was sure would echo the entire mountain and alert every beast present in it.

"Shit kid!" A scrawny unkept soldier stormed from where he sat in watch to them.

He stopped after getting in range, "what's the issue here__"

"Get away from my brother you heartless piece of shit!" Carl struck him in anger side clashing him by the face and forcing the soldier to stagger back grabbing his nose in agony.

"Fucking brat!" He placed a finger on his trigger in fury and endeavored to point it to Carlos but refrained from his action. 'I might be mad but I am not the type of man to kill kids!'

The soldier stormed away not wanting to get involved and his remaining colleagues took their eyes off them.

'Damn, he almost shot us, I hope this was not for nothing,' Eri who was already healed grabbed Carlos by the wrist and pulled him to follow quickly.

Eri gulped, they better get back to the others before an actual shootout happened.

It did not take them long however the others ran to them probably hearing the screams and tensed yelling from Carlos.

"What happened?" Elsa was the first to ask bending over and hugging Carlos before checking if he got injured or anything.

"Did those bastards lay a finger on you? I will kill them all!" Gambit clasped Sky's shoulder to calm him down.

"What happened Eri?" Gambit asked him with an illness in his tone. "Did they harm you? Why were you both seperated from us?"

Unusually this sounded like a father questioning this kids and Eri was bereft of what to answer first.

"Uhm-uhnnnnn we went to pee___" that was the best lying he could do. Man he was gullible.

"Eri you are bleeding!" Elsa called their attention to that fact and everyone became worried somehow?

Gambit was the first to react opening his backpack in search of his raided first aid box.

"No don't be!...."

"There's no time for that!" Carlos interupted before elaborating why, "the soldiers are not the problem, but there is an enemy in camp."

"What how did you know this Carl?" The paleness in Elsa's face spoke more than her words. She could tell they were out doing dangerous stuff and that shattered her.

"So you investigated those bitches," Skylar was strangely proud. Not even bothered if it were dangerous or not, surely they were different characters.

"I read the mind of the soldier that I touched and they are remorseful for us," Carlos came closer and his voice turned into a whisper, "the man I touched has been with Barnabas the longest and whenever they rescued a bunch of survivals like they did for us, a strange phenomenon will invariably occur."

"What happens?" Gambit placed a hand on his chin using his side eyes to see if any one listened to their conversations.

"They camp on this mountain and when they do out of nowhere mutants begin to invade the mountain and kill at least twenty percent of the population." Carlos then huffed out some air from his lungs before finally saying, "the scary part is that no one wakes up till the mutants come."

After this the group suddenly entered a silent phase all thinking of what Carl had passed to them.

'It's pretty deep information with a lot of untold sides,' Eri shook his head too confused to put it all together, 'I might not know what is going on here, but the smell big this mountain and the feeling of foreboding I get here does not bode well.'

'This feels like an ambush?'

[Welcome to the Forest mountain]
