Melissa's head felt like something hard had banged against it. She winced in pain when she moved her body. Melissa slowly opened her eyes and saw an unfamiliar room. She quickly looked down and was relieved to see that she's still fully dressed.
Instead of being panic, Melissa sighed heavily and the first thought that came to mind was, 'When will this end??' It's really too tiring living in the novel world, there's always something 'silly' that would happen in the next minute, even if she tried to avoid it. She actually wondered, if she refused to follow Lady Anastasia, would the circumstance changed? Or she still would not be able to avoid it?
Melissa looked around and realized that the room was luxuriously designed. The walls were painted in rich brown, and the floor was laden with beautiful carpets. The wardrobe and dresser seemed to be on par with what she owned so they must be pretty expensive too.
Melissa's eyes caught sight of the windows and there were curtains blocking the view outside. From her discerning eyes, she saw that the curtains were made of the finest brocade and there was also a seating area next to the windows. On the table was a glass full of fresh flowers.
Her hands touched the soft mattress and the bedspread that was made of fine silk. However, the red silk somehow sent slight shivers to her body.
Strange, the person who kidnapped her seemed to be well-off but which noblemen in the capital dared to cooperate with Lady Anastasia to go against Duke Malcom, or more importantly, Duke Kensington?
Melissa knew no matter who was involved, she had to escape from this strange place. She didn't know who had kidnapped her and why, but she guess she would find out soon. More importantly, will Sir Andrew be able to rescue her on time before something bad happen to her? Melissa sighed again.
True enough, a knock sounded on the door. Here he comes. But the next second, Melissa was puzzled. Seriously? A polite kidnapper? Now Melissa was even more curious. For one thing, unlike the normal scenario of kidnapping, she wasn't bound with rope. There was not a single scratch on her body. Even her hairdo was still intact. Just who in the world is this person?
Melissa quickly moved out of the bed and went to the seating area. Being in bed at this moment was definitely not a good idea. After a few seconds went by, the door was opened and a strange man walked into the room.
"My Lady, how do you do? My name is Johny King. But you can call me Johnny. How do you find your room? Is it to your liking?"
Melissa scrutinised the man in front of her and tried to recall if she had seen him before or maybe he's someone that Lady Melissa knew. This Mr King looked like he was around her father's age, he's dressed in full black and had cropped hair, his scalp was almost visible. Although he was smiling, his eyes reflected a somewhat sinister look and his thin moustache made his sly grin looked like a wolf who's ready to devour his prey anytime. In summary, he's a nasty looking man!
There was nothing she could remember in her memory about this Mr King.
"I'm sorry Mr King, but may I know why did you bring me here?" She asked cautiously.
"Call me Johny please. As I said before, this is your room. You will live here from now on. That's why I brought you here." Mr King said as he approached her.
'Ok, this man is clearly delusional. I have to calm down. The only way to deal with this type of person is by not showing fear.' Melissa thought and hurriedly came up with a plan. She needed to stall as much time as she could until she's rescued, well at least that's what she hoped Sir Andrew was doing at this moment.
"Mr King, I mean, Johny, I am flattered but I'm hoping you could explain what's going on here. One moment I was at the party, and the next I was brought here. Did Lady Anastasia put you up to this?" Melissa asked.
The smile on Mr King's froze at the mentioned of Lady Anastasia. He shook his head and looked worriedly at Melissa.
"My Lady, you must never associate with that woman anymore. She doesn't like you very much. I brought you here to keep you safe. Fear not, I will protect you from now on." Mr King confidently said. He gestured for Melissa to sit on the couch and poured her a glass of water.
Mr King looked at the refined woman in front of her and couldn't help but feel excited in his heart. She's so different from any woman he knew. There was a sense of calm and serenity in her, that made him felt at peace when he looked at her face. He initially thought that he wouldn't be able to hold himself when she was first brought to him. But when his men placed her on the bed, he couldn't bear to touch her at will.
Now sitting here with him, she showed him not the slightest fear, which delight him more! Usually the women he bed all feared him and he knew they submitted to him not because they wanted him but because they feared him. The more they're scared of him, the more he felt disdainful towards them and he would eventually resort to violence during sex. Mr King looked at Lady Melissa intently, trying to figure her out.
Unknown to him, Melissa's insides were already turning upside down and she felt a huge sense of nausea brewing within. She also looked at this man, trying to figure what he wanted to do next. She looked at the glass of water and only hesitated for a while before drinking it. She took a gamble that the water was safe to drink. If he wanted to harm her, he could already done so when she's unconscious just now. But not a single hair was touched by him. Melissa guessed the man was probably trying to get some form of acknowledgment from her before doing anything.
"I'm going to make you my wife." Suddenly, Mr King broke the momentary silence in the room.
Melissa was startled at the mention of that. She choked on the water that she's drinking and coughed violently. Mr King stood up and it was obvious he wanted to come over to where she's at, but Melissa quickly raised her hand, stopping his action. She tried her best to suppress her coughs and her face became so red she thought she could burst anytime.
"May I go to the washroom to freshen up?" She struggled to say after she felt better.
"Yes, of course! Are you feeling alright?" Mr King asked worriedly.
"I'm fine, I just need a minute." Melissa said with a weak smile.
