Chapter Thirteen: The Kidnap

Ava and her elderly neighbor Mrs. Williams walked out of the modest home they once shared. It was time for Ava to leave after her weekly visit. She preferred staying in one of her luxurious apartments in the city that was closer to her office, only coming by when she could spare the time.

"I'll come by again soon when work calms down, I promise," Ava said as Mrs. Williams walked her to the sleek sports car parked in the driveway.

"Oh don't worry about me, dear," the older woman said with a dismissive wave. "I won't call nagging you to visit. But if you don't come around more often, I may just have to give your old room to Brenda."

Ava rolled her eyes good-naturedly. Brenda was her childhood friend who still stuck around hoping to wiggle her way into Ava's wealthy life. "That girl is an absolute monster, you know that right?"
