Chapter Fourteen: The Captives

Ava's eyes flew open, blinded by a harsh light streaming through the window. She squinted, trying to make sense of her surroundings. 

"It'll help your eyes adjust," a too-familiar voice said snidely.

Ava whipped her head towards the sound. "Liam? You've got to be kidding me!"

Liam sat across the bare room, hazel eyes glinting with amusement at her discomfort. "Nice of you to finally join me, sweetheart." 

Rage bubbled up inside Ava. "Don't you dare 'sweetheart' me after the stunt you pulled!" She pushed herself up, advancing on him. "Letting me pay for those overpriced drinks, then making a scene at my office the next day?"

Liam scoffed, unfazed. "You're the one who caused a scene, you harpy. All I did was come collect what you owed me."
