Chapter Twenty-Three: A Clash of Clocks and Hearts

Liam opened his mouth to respond, but Ava plowed ahead, her ire rising. "I rearranged my entire evening around this little get-together, dragging myself out after an extremely long day at the office. And for what? To have you stroll half an hour late without a care in the world?"

Bristling at her caustic tone, Liam leaned back in his chair. "Listen, I get that punctuality is this big hang-up for you corporate types, but not everything requires such militant adherence to the clock, sweetheart."

Ava recoiled slightly at his condescending term of endearment. "First of all, don't call me 'sweetheart.' Secondly, respecting other people's time isn't some personality flaw. It's basic common decency - something you could stand to learn."

Before Liam could retort, their heated back-and-forth was interrupted by a cheerful voice. "Hi there! Can I get you folks started with some snacks or drinks this evening?"
