Chapter 5: Progress and Hereditary Talents

"Hey hey wake up, wake up Rus" said a soothing voice which sounded as is it was a divine melody from an angel.

I begrudgingly opened my eyes only to see blurred face looking at me. I rubbed my eyes to look again at the figure infront to only find out it was Cecilia.

"Your finally awake, it's dinner time and you didn't come so I came to bring you while mother and father are waiting downstairs" she said a bit annoyed by my behaviour.

"You should had started without me then".

"No! Why should we leave you behind, we are family so we should do things like eating dinner together".

I couldn't be bothered to refute so I slowly got up and teleported us downstairs. When I arrived I saw my father and mother looking at us with a smile, the food was already set up on the table patiently wait for us to eat.

"I still can't get over the fact how amazing your talent is Rus, it's so convenient and useful. I wish I had it as well" Cecilia said with a pout.

She then took my hand and led me forwards to my sit where I sat, sister was right next to me on my left. Mother was sitting opposite sister while father was at the head of the table.

"Alright let's start eating" said my mother and we all began.

While eating my father said "Lazarus you are already 5, so now you should go with your mother to attend parties and make your official social debut".

Yes, I hadn't let the Gremory territory at all during my past 5 years here. I was kept at home all the time and even on my birthday only family members were there to celebrate it with me which got quite boring, but that's doesn't mean I was just lazing around. No instead I was working out to raise my attributes, mother came up with a plan for me to follow which soon became my daily routine.

In this world, majority if not all noble families which are marquis ranked to royal ranked keep their children home until they turn 5. This has become a tradition for them and is done for the safety of the children but also so they can be educated a bit. Safety because our lives could be put in danger by perhaps kidnapper or the like who wish to earn money, while on the other hand other families might send assassins to assassinate the children as they might be a threat to them in the future. Why the second reason you ask, well it's of course so the parents can brag about how intelligent or outstanding their child is. Which parent doesn't want to brag about their child, also it is done to maintain the reputation of the household. As a noble family your descendants must also possess superior and admirable qualities which separate you from the rest. Showing off the children's intelligence isn't the only way, another is by showing off the talents they have.

If your child awakens his or her talent at for before which is a very young age it highlights their talent, noble families can use this to flaunt against others and showcase the bright future ahead for the said families.

Well my doting mother wouldn't let go off this chance to announce my greatness and envious talent to the world, after all I will be the future head of the Gremory or Ravenblade family in the future and her pride as a mother.

Now you might ask, who are the Ravenblade family? To answer your question it is one of the five royal families like Gremory. It's my mother's family and as she was the only child of the head of the family she is natually the heir. But as she married the heir of another royal family and had children it means me and my sister are eligible to succeed the current head of the Ravenblade family who is our grandfather from mother's side. It was decide after I was born that either I or sister would lead the Ravenblade family while the other becomes the successor of the Gremory family. As a result both us siblings are heirs to royal families.

"Yes father" I replied emotionlessly.

Yes the side effect of 'Calm Mind' is already in play which worries my family as I have become almost expressionless. Due to this my already doting mother and sister have become even more doting due to their worry. Like if originally their doting level was at 99, now it increased to level 150. It broke through the leveling cap.

My mother after hearing my reply had a lovely smile bloom on her face and seemed extremely excited. I can already sense trouble coming my way because of this.

Speaking of, I forgot to mention that I wasn't the only one who made progress in the past five years.

I glimpse toward my sister and mumbled 'Appraisal'.

My sister has gone up to E- rank and awakened two more talents.

Darkness Manipulation:

The user can manipulate the darkness element in however way she wants. The more proficient the user becomes the greater control she achieves over the darkness allowing the user to make more intricate and complicated moves.

The manipulation type talents are one of the rarest talents to awaken. They are all at the very top of high ranked talents, father has one as well which is 'Wind Manipulation'.

Sword Master:

The user has a talent in swordsmanship, can comprehend sword techniques faster and attacks with a sword do 20% more damage.

The 'Sword Master' is a hereditary talent of the Ravenblade bloodline, all of them will awaken this talent. This also means they have a great talent for the sword and I am also guaranteed to get it as well. But it doesn't mean people who aren't from the Ravenblade bloodline can't get the talent, because they can but they are not guaranteed to awaken it like people who possess the Ravenblade bloodline.

There are also other hereditary talents for other families whereas for the Gremory family there is none. Instead members of the Gremory bloodline are very talented at controlling mana and are usually born with a high mana attribute. This is what makes the Gremory family dangerous as they can become strong faster at an early age compared to others and are inherently better at manipulating mana.
