Trust

Omniscient's POV

"I want to trust you, Theo," Lilith admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I've been betrayed before, and I can't afford to let my guard down again."

Caedes nodded, his expression filled with understanding. "I know," he said softly. Something in him shifting. "But I promise you, I won't let anything happen to you. I'll protect you with everything I have."

With those words, he reached out and gently took her hand in his.

Although he did, could he fulfil his promise? Or was the girl going to be abandoned again? What will Caedes do when he finds out that this very girl is the reason Jester had forsaken everything, and turned down the evil path?

For Lilith is the very reason Jester became who he is and ultimately, killed Keiren. It wouldn't be wrong to say that it was actually Lilith because of whom Keiren Astaroth was killed.

As the girl returned the gesture, her hand fitted perfectly into his.

"Maybe this will help you in trusting me!" He said with a sheepish smile, trying to lighten the mood.

The boy was happy to make a new friend.

'She can't harm me.' Caedes was still practical, yes. The only reason he trusted her with his secrets was because she was weaker than him. He didn't realize that the allure of a real friend just made him rationalize his stupid acts.

If only this boy in black tunics and a white overcoat knew how much both of their fates were gonna change and intertwine because of this princess. Because of this girl that the people would soon call the God Killer in the future.

They had set up the tent a few miles from the gates of the boss room, away from the guardian and into the shadows. The flickering light of their campfire cast a warm glow on the tent, offering a semblance of comfort amidst the surrounding darkness. The night was quiet, the usual sounds of the cave eerily absent, adding to the tension that lingered in the air.

Pulling on her hand, he helped her stand. Strolling back to where the dead guardian was, outside the shadows, they silently looked at the abomination. It was now Caedes' turn to prove himself.

Leaving hold of Lilith's hand, he strode to the beast, his expression grave. 'Will she leave me too once she knows of my curse...more like powers but yeah- Am I gonna be looked at with eyes full of fear again?"

He bent down, stopping near the head of the guardian. The guardian was a lion with a dozen snakes where its tail should be. Covered with a golden mane, it looked quite fierce, fighting with the use of his elongated pythons.

Softly touching the lion's head, blood entered into his hands slowly. Even after draining the beast's blood for more than what seemed half an hour, it had barely become skinny.

Having almost filled his blood bank, the boy pulled his hand back, blood stuck on his hand like slime. He stood there, tentacles bursting out of his back, his grey eyes glowing brightly as he stared faced her figure.

Weirdly, Caedes' eyes were on her feet. The boy did not want to look at her all scared. He did not wanna get disappointed again. He was not a beast. It was just his powers.

'How do I make her understand! For god's sake, it's not like I am a demon who's behind her life??' Groaning out loud, he pulled his gaze higher. He stared into the eyes of the girl. Trying to find hints of fear, mockery, and coldness. Something. Just something that could prove him right. That could prove to him that his parents abandoned him for a reason. That he was a monster.

All he needed was one hint that she was scared and maybe he would have forsaken everything. Deep down, since the time he discovered his parents were alive.. He's been scared.

'What if my parents had abandoned me because they thought of me as a demon too? What if I go back and all I see are looks of fear and coldness on their faces?'

"Wuuuu, that was sooo pretty!! Can you please do it again?"

'The fuck, what again?'

Caedes focused back on Lilith's figure, staring at her eyes that shone like diamonds.

"What did you say?"

"Can you please do that againn!!"

"Huh?"

"Your eyes!! They glowed like stars in the dark-"

"The what?"

"Are you deaf?"

Creases formed on the boy's forehead,

'Is she dumb?'

The tentacles behind his back moved to the girl, holding her in the air

'What did you say?" He asked, trying to see if she was just acting.

A glint of intelligence flickered in the girl's eyes, she was a princess. No matter how weird his powers may be, she has seen and experienced way more than a layman. Her father often took her to different realms and explored places with her.

Now that she knew a little about how 'Theodore' was, she was able to come out of her shell and understand his dilemma.

'Father's boring lessons finally came to use! HEHEHE, I'm gonna annoy that old foggie when I return home-'

While the girl cooked ideas of how she'll be smug to her dad upon reaching back to her kingdom, Caedes stepped back, experiencing a 'Deja vu'

'What's with these girls and their scary wide-ass smiles??' He thought, crying internally as he got comfortable about how she didn't abandon him. The boy didn't know about her bond with Sara, that Kraken princess..But Lilith had officially become the first person in his life who could make him smile. Yes, the boy that knew nothing more than pain, smiled at her antiques.

Was this the beginning of a new start?
