DARK NIGHTS

"Fay," he called her in a voice that projected caution.

"Ace Atticus," she replied.

He smiled at her responding with his full name.

"I know considering the circumstances, it may seem like I'm trying to get ahead of myself, but if I leave you tonight without saying this, I'll never forgive myself."

"Oh," she sat up. "What is it, Ace?" She asked, worried lines stretching her forehead.

"I'm sorry for everything. For not believing you when I should have been fighting for you. For hurting you. For putting everyone's feelings above yours. For not loving you loud enough. For being selfish. For my arrogance. I'm sorry for everything, Fay. And this doesn't mean you have to forgive me. Absolutely take your time to sort out your feelings. I just wouldn't have any form of rest if I didn't tell you how sorry I am," he ended with a sober expression.

Fay expertly held back the tears that threatened to spill.
