Chapter 5

She couldn't sleep, no matter how much she tried, the snores of the others in the makeshift room filtered into her ears, but no matter how hard she turned and tossed she couldn't find sleep.

She supposed this was payback for being mean to Anna, or perhaps it was because of the rustling coming from the bushes behind her wall, or maybe it was because Ryan's words kept on playing on her eyes.

Furthermore, she was now a wanted felon, and she didn't even know her crime, it didn't matter what it was, all that mattered was that she couldn't sleep.

Throwing caution to the wind, she decides to take a walk on the field that she had seen not too far from the cathedral.

Walking through the back lawn, or rather what Anna had called the training field, she stuffs her hand into her sweats pocket, the doctor had instructed her to avoid any form of physical stress, that included walking long distances, but at the moment she didn't care, she wanted out of her head.

Not too far from the cathedral, she felt it, the shift in the air, the hairs at the back of her neck stood and she there and then knew that someone was watching her.

 But from where?

And why?, who would want to watch her like she was important or something, her life was currently in shambles, and she was a mess of new ideals and beliefs.

Alarmed she looks around, left, right, up, and behind her, but she was only surrounded by trees, the main building a few yards away.

How far did I walk, she thought

But then she hears it, amidst the noisy chirping of the crickets she hears it, a slight snarl that grows louder with every second, like a warning.

A snarl that only an animal could make, had they not done a proper check on the lands in the camp.

Paralyzed by fear, she hears the sound again, only this time it was louder and closer, looking behind her, she notices something between the trees, clothed by the dark.

Sharp blue eyes stared back at her, icy and cold.

 What is that?

The animal lets out another growl, this one louder than the rest, shaking the whole forest and without a second though she turns around and begins to run.

Running is fun, it makes you feel free, happy. The adrenaline rush, blood pumping in your veins, usually it would have been fun, if she wasn't currently running for her life.

She could hear the unsteady pounding of her heart drumming with adrenaline as she ran faster, her palms were sweaty, and she doubted in she would be able to make it to the main building, but she was ready to give it a shot.

If she hadn't died from being assassinated by the government, she sure as hell wasn't about to be the unknown monster's late dinner.

On the filed and in the late night air, you could hear her harsh panting and her heavy steps, but you could also hear lighter paw steps, closely behind her... it was like the monster wasn't running... but it was and it was fast.

One minute she was running the next a heavy body slammed into her tackling her to the ground, she fell to the ground, her left side aching from the impact of the fall, and then she was rolling, rolling down the hill, her eyes closed and the skin of her face being torn away by harsh twigs and sharp grass.

Her rolling comes to a stop, her face towards the sky and her lungs begging for air, for a second she wondered if fighting to earn this second life was worth it if she was just going to die this early.

She felt a chill run up her spine, not because of the cold night, but because of the rumbling she heard coming from her right, she kept her eyes shut waiting for death, until she heard the rumbling coming from on top of her.

It stayed that way for minutes, till she popped an eye open, and then the other.

Above her high and mighty, was a white wolf, large and proud, it was so white, the light of the moon on it made it somewhat blinding. But then she noticed the eyes, blue, a very sharp very deep shade of blue that radiated coldness.

She knew those sets of eyes anywhere, they were burned into the back of her mind. She stayed still watching the wolf the same way it watched her, it looked almost fascinated, but then its eyes sparked with something new, and it let out a growl.

Fearing the worst, she shut her eyes tight, waiting for the fatal blow that would send her back to the door steps of the gods.

But then she felt it, the shift in the air, how the breathing coming from on top of her sounded normal, and how all of a sudden she didn't feel like her life was being threatened.

Taking a deep breath, she pops her eyes opening, telling her self that if this was the last time she was going to make use of them, she might as well take a good look at her potential killer.

Light blonde hair, no white hair, blue eyes, a sharp jawline, with beautiful pink lips set in a scowl, his top half shirtless, and she stared at his chest, a six-pack, well tanned, with muscles that let her know that he was a warrior.

Her eyes trailed down and stayed there far longer than she would like, and she knew it was stupid of her to sexualize a stranger who could be her potential killer, but by the gods he was quite the sight.

Lifting her eyes up once more, she finds him staring at her, a certain hunger in his look,

but that was when she realized, that the eyes that she had stared at for so long, and marveled at their beauty, belonged to her assailant...

The man on top was none other than the shadow in the clinic that stared at her the exact same way he was staring at her now.

She took in an audible gulp of air....
