The silence continued between Colwyn and his undead squire for a while, until the knight left Azel presumably to retire to his own tent. Gryphon's greatest use so far was his bag of holding, which functioned based on the same teleportation magic used in the Gateways. As a result the group could store all the resources they needed in a single bag.
But Azel wasn't thinking about how to best pack camping supplies, his thoughts were focused on a much more serious idea. His muted emotions, as well as his lack of empathy.
He had always known something was missing. It wasn't as though he had ever possessed those feelings and then lost them—no, his undeath had left him hollow from the start. A thing that walked and spoke like a man but lacked the traits that made people people.
Azel had accepted it as fact. It was simply how he was.
But now, as he sat alone by the fire, he found himself questioning whether that was enough.
