Boom boom boom
In the heart of the city, the battle raged on.
Brain and his two companions were under immense pressure, despite having a group of wizards assisting them.
The main issue was their inability to locate Everit's true body and the breakdown of communication between them.
What seemed like a collective effort against a siege was essentially a series of individual battles.
Everit unleashed his full power, deceiving the senses of all his foes. While he didn't manipulate emotions directly, his influence on Brain and the others was deeply troubling.
Emotion control wasn't necessary; the fear Everit instilled was potent enough. It wasn't a mere battle anymore; it felt like a desperate defense, as they struggled to find purpose in fighting.
After all, defeat meant death, and even victory seemed futile.
They knew little of Miko's nature, always fearing a sudden onslaught of demonic magic.
Despair was the word that echoed in their hearts.
Their shock and fear made them vulnerable. In this state, Everit could easily shatter their resolve.
"You're all so noisy," Everit remarked, eyeing the group of wizards.
He retrieved several cards, affixing them to his back.
With a flap of his wings, the cards released air, boosting his speed twofold.
With a resounding crash, he descended like a meteor into a cluster of smaller wizards.
Without employing Haven and Tier, a crimson line appeared on his wrist, coiling around his fist.
A thunderous impact followed as he drove his fist into a wizard, burying him deep into the ground.
Swiftly turning, he lashed out with a powerful kick.
"One punch and one kick."
Everit had completely abandoned his previous fighting style.
'Boom boom boom'
Brain and the others' magic bombarded him, knocking his brothers to the ground, but they showed no intention of dodging.
They had all been deceived by Everit and stood there dazed—believing they were engaged in a thrilling and intense battle.
Not everyone was capable of instantly sensing the magical power behind Everit's attacks; at least, they lacked the ability to do so.
Only elites like Natsu and Gray, who were members of a guild of Fairy Tail's caliber, could barely grasp the threshold of perception—under normal circumstances, that is.
Only those who had reached S-level, such as Erza and Laxus, could perceive and possessed enough skill to evade.
And only those at Jose's level could both perceive and retaliate simultaneously.
These were individuals unafraid of Everit deceiving their senses.
Brain and the others were still one step behind.
They could only defend themselves, while those lesser skilled had no power to fight back.
"Boom boom boom"
Everit's frenzied assault covered the ground, inflicting no harm upon himself, but it obliterated all the lesser foes, completely excluding them from the high-stakes game.
"And you three." Everit finished speaking, then turned to look, "No, it's four."
"Da"
Jellal stepped forward with a grim expression.
"You hurt Wendy," Everit stated coldly, "I don't care who you are. By opposing me, you've hurt Wendy, that little cutie."
"I won't hold back against you!"
'Boom'
He charged toward Jellal.
"Sensing it!"
Brain and the others quickly acted, releasing magic to strike Everit.
"Sorry, Miko, please hold on for another forty seconds," Everit said.
"It's okay, Everit, I can manage," Miko replied.
The magic attack struck Everit, who felt no pain, but Miko did.
Even though it didn't breach his defense, the pain was undeniable.
In this state, Everit couldn't deceive Miko's sense to avoid feeling pain. Blocking Miko's five senses meant the scale powder couldn't synchronize perfectly with Everit's movements, creating a vulnerability.
Forty seconds passed.
The battle concluded.
Blood vessels burst, turning the whites of Everit's eyes crimson, veins crawling into his irises like insects.
Everit's eyes turned blood-red, pupils dilating faster, giving him a demonic appearance.
"Everit," Jellal saw him charging and attempted to dodge.
"Meteor!"
He transformed into a meteor and evaded.
Bang!
Meanwhile, Hoteye was suddenly thrown backward.
What?!
Hoteye was attacked?!
This is what it feels when your senses are deceived.
Humans rely on their senses and instinctively trust what they perceive—like suddenly swapping the Q, W, E, and D, F keys in a game, causing confusion.
In an instant—less than a second—Everit's rapid approach towards Jellal drew everyone's attention.
But in reality,
Everit intercepted Hoteye and delivered a powerful kick to his chest.
Then, he swiftly followed up.
Cards were affixed to his elbows, shoulders, and other limbs.
With each strike, the cards expelled air, multiplying his attack power several times over!
"Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora--"
Everit unleashed a flurry of relentless combos.
Left hooks, right hooks, low sweeps, high whip kicks.
Hoteye was completely overwhelmed; under this onslaught, he couldn't muster any resistance.
"Damn it!"
Brain, Midnight, and Jellal charged in, bombarding Hoteye together.
"Don't worry, your turn is coming!"
Everit pivoted and dashed towards Brain.
Brain barely reacted in time to Everit's close-range punch—it was already too late!
"Oración Seis, right!"
"Nirvana, right!"
"Great goal, right!"
"Leader of the villains, taste the iron fist of justice!"
"Personality Correction Fist!"
"Hundred Combos!"
"Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora--"
Brain was relentlessly pummeled by Everit, like a ragdoll, and sent flying through two streets!
Midnight wiped sweat from his brow, "Father!"
"No point calling him father, he's a scoundrel!"
Everit appeared once more before Midnight.
"You're just pretending, right!"
"You scoundrel!"
"Distorted space?"
"Teleportation?"
"Illusion?"
"Everything's just smoke and mirrors against a strong fist!"
"Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora--"
Midnight was pounded deep into the ground, his eyes losing focus.
Gudong--
Jellal swallowed hard, feeling numb.
He thought he had recovered and came out to besiege Everit, joining the battle against the Legal Guild Alliance!
He knew Everit was formidable. In the Tower of Heaven, he'd been controlled by the opponent's deception magic.
Then, under the opponent's command, second-rate wizards wielding fire and ice had overwhelmed him, leaving him no chance to fight back.
He'd only known Everit's magic to be almost flawless in support.
But why hadn't this guy resorted to underhanded tricks, instead attacking like a madman with punches and kicks?
Was his original strength truly so terrifying?
"Now it's your turn!"
The menacing voice echoed in his ears.
"Wait, Erza." At that moment, Jellal's survival instinct overpowered his brainwashing.
"You, the one who made Erza cry, still expect mercy from her comrades?!"
Everit bellowed, "I've said it before—I don't care who you are. If you stand against me, I'll never hold back!"
"And you're the reason Erza shed tears!"
"So--"
"You're guilty of a greater crime!" Jellal exclaimed.
"Three hundred hits!" shouted another voice.
"Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora Ora--"
'Bang!'
Jellal was sent flying backwards, his head colliding with the city's large bell.
'Dong!' The bell resonated loudly.
'Plop!'
Jellal lay on the ground, his face contorted in despair.
"Oh. I can't see his expression."
After all, Jellal was beaten so badly he seemed like a nobody, his face unreadable.
"Huh——"
"It feels so good——"
"This sensation of imparting justice with an iron fist."
Everit let out a long breath as the scales on his body faded away.
