When Bella returned to the room with a plate of steamed fish, Meggie was kneeling in prayer, her hands clasped together at her chest, eyes closed, sincerely pleading with God.
“What are you praying for this time?” Bella asked with a smile.
Meggie slowly opened her eyes and replied, “What else would I be praying for? Of course, I’m praying for a great-grandchild! Didn’t you hear Dylan earlier? Vincent and Emily have reconciled! Now that they’ve made up, they need to hurry up and give me a great-grandchild. I’ve been waiting three years for this!”
Bella smiled softly, “Yes, that should happen soon.”
Meggie paused, frowning slightly. “Wait, no. They should have the wedding first, and then the baby, or else some people might start gossiping about Emily again.”
Bella remained quiet, but she knew exactly whom Meggie meant by “some people.” In this family, Bryden and Janet rarely come home, Alex keeps to himself, and there’s only one person left who fits that description.
