After an hour of a little research Dr. Martin went back Amaya's room. An exclusive VIP room made just for her.
Due to her condition she also had a strange reaction to people hiccup, needles and dark places which lead to her fainting and going into a two to five days of staying in coma. All injections or anything regarding needles was removed from her room. He was a forty years old man, too young to father Amaya but he loved her more than a father would love his daughter. He remembered the first day he had meet her, exactly fifteen years ago,
he was driving home after a long shift at the hospital. The rain pounded heavily making the roads look deserted. He was about to make a right turn, when he suddenly saw a small figure darting out onto the road. Immediately, he slammed on the brakes, his heart pounding. The car came to a halt just inches away from the little girl he saw. She looked a bit terrified as she shivered from the coldness of the rain . Shaken but relieved, he stepped out to ensure she was unharmed. The little girl seemed to have lost all her strength that instant and fainted. His doctor instincts quickly kicked in with a little hint of worry. He carried her up to the back of the car and made a quick u-turn back to the hospital. Upon getting there he carried her inside and straight to the emergency unit followed by a few nurses that were on duty that day. During their time there they discovered several dark spots on her body which clearly showed that she had been injected several times. She had stayed in coma for five days and just when she woke up she had severe panic and was immediately stabilized. Her family was located, but only her mother emerged as a relative, who was also found to be responsible for the injections the girl had endured. Legal actions were taken against her, yet she remained unremorseful, deepening Martin's pity for her. He pondered how long the girl had suffered in silence. Despite the substance she had been injected with going undetected, months into treatment revealed she was afflicted with schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior, and dissocial disorders, complicating her interactions with others. She improved a little after three years of therapy and during that time she was adopted by his close family friend. Just thinking about her day by day made him worry for her more. He just hoped to find a cure for her one day and it had already been fifteen years.
He made his way to her room, followed by Nurse Linda, the nurse who had informed him earlier of her awakening
She carried in her hands a laptop. Knowing that taking her blood or conducting other routine tests would be futile, Dr. Martin planned to show her a video to observe her reactions. When they arrived, Amaya was seated silently on the hospital bed, clearly lost in thought.
"Amaya, it's time for the test," Dr. Martin said.
"What kind of test is it?" Amaya wondered.
"I'm going to play you a video. Don't overthink it. Just watch, and I'll observe your reactions," he explained.
"Okay," she replied simply.
Nurse Linda set up the laptop and played the video. It was a simple clip of a man hiccuping. But as Amaya watched, her symptoms returned. Instead of the man, she saw a scene unfolding as if replaying a memory from her childhood.
She was back in time, a few years younger, returning home from school with her report card, eager to show her mother her good grades. But as she stepped inside, she found her mother in a bad mood. The joy on her face faded instantly, and she ran to her room, locking the door behind her. She stayed there, isolated and frightened, until midnight.
Hunger eventually drove her out of her room a little past midnight. She tiptoed to the kitchen, but there was nothing edible. Disappointed, she turned back to her room. As she approached her door, she saw her mother standing there, still in a bad mood and holding an injection in her hand. Panic surged through her, and she dashed to another room in the house, one that was rarely used.
The room was cold and dark. She huddled in a corner, hoping her mother wouldn't find her. As fear and coldness set in, she began to shiver uncontrollably, and soon she started hiccuping. As the fear slowly overwhelmed her she slowly drifted back to her present state. Her breathing became rapid, her eyes wide with fear. Dr. Martin quickly noted her heightened state of anxiety, while Nurse Linda moved to stop the video.
IN THE BROOKS MANSION
Adam Brooks didn't get home until around 3:00 p.m. Fortunately for him, his mom, dad, and siblings were still in bed, so he went straight to his room. He felt overwhelmed by the day's activities and was extremely glad that he didn't have to endure any more tantrums from his parents as he got home. His refusal on not taking over the company was vivid. Nothing would have him change his mind. He took a quick shower and laid in bed. His thoughts slowly drifting to the woman he had encountered earlier.
One Week Later
Amaya signed as she walked inside her house. She had left and was only returning after one week. She had fainted and stayed that way after watching the video footage and woke up five days later. She took around day visting towns in country z to cool off her head a little. She felt sadder than she was already just thinking about it. She halted after taking a few steps forward upon seeing the two figures seated on the sofa in the living room. Her adopted mother and best friend. The only two people she felt ok with.
"Yaya!! Oh my goodness". Her best friend was the first to approach her. Worry written all over her face. Her mother was next to get up. They both hugged her tightly displaying their love and concern for her.
"Am sorry I couldn't be here for you honey." Her mom said. "I wouldn't have gone that business trip if I knew this was going to happen." Catherine, Amaya's adoptive mother plainly said sadly.
"Same here Yaya. Oh I feel like a terrible friend." Joanne , her best friend also added.
"Would you two relax. Why are you acting as if this is the first thing this is happening." Amaya said as she tried to break free from their hugs. She had become the adoptive daughter of Catherine a few months after her mother was taken away. Her relationship with her wasn't as a mother and daughter but she never failed to show Catherine how grateful she was. Though she knew Catherine sometimes desired more than gratitude. As for Joanne, she had stuck beside Amaya's side since she started school when she was fifteen. Amaya's antisocial character pushed many of her peers away from her but Joanne stuck by her till this day. She felt a little blessed to have these woman by her side but that didn't take away the loneliness and deep hurt buried deep within her. Joanne's parents and Catherine were really good friends and great business partners. They had started a new project and Joanne's dad had let her take over so she traveled with Catherine to Country M to sign some contracts.
"I've had a really long week and same goes for you both. Am going to my room. Joanne, you should go home. You look extremely worn out and you too Catherine. Please go rest and don't worry about me. Am fine." Amaya said a little cheerfully. She went upstairs to her room and Joanne followed her up.
"Wait Yaya! I want to stay over. I can rest in your room." She said. How can she leave her best friend in this state. She already bad that she wasn't there with her during that.
