Silent Night (2)

As I cautiously advanced, the figure up ahead remained shrouded in mystery. Could it be the Empress's guards? I surveyed the surroundings, seeking a safe path. Each step was a calculated risk, a delicate dance to avoid detection. But then, the sound of approaching footsteps shattered the silence, heading straight for the man I was desperately trying to evade.

"Why are you here?"

"Can an old friend talk to you? I'm sure it'll be worth your time."

I recognize one of the voices, and it's Weltenschmerz. He chuckles as if this is the funniest thing ever to him. I continue without Weltenschmerz and his friend knowing.

"My dear Leon, it's best that you don't approach the building up ahead. I hear the beldam, a name befitting the Empress of our kingdom, is there." Weltenschmerz's voice carried a note of caution.

"The beldam is quite a name to give to the Empress of our kingdom," Leon said, his voice filled with concern. "But how is Bertha? Did you check how she is? The Empress is probably after her once again, we need to find Anna before things get out of hand." His worry for Bertha was palpable.

"I didn't check. Bertha requested that I meet in person to talk about something important, and when I saw the Empress's carriage there, I couldn't risk being caught. I thought you were inside with Bertha and the Empress, but a gut feeling told me you weren't." Weltenschmerz had his usual playful tone but with a hint of concern.

Weltenschmerz took a deep sigh before continuing the conversation. "I saw Duke Claus is there. He seems to have lost something. Perhaps if we found it, we could use it as blackmail."

Leon immediately replied, "Are you insane?! Duke Claus isn't someone we can easily mess with. He may have Anna, but we can't just come in without a plan. Whatever he's looking for probably serves no purpose to him."

"Fear not, Leon. I will uncover what Duke Claus is seeking, and I will rescue Anna before it becomes official." Weltenschmerz's voice, tinged with a mix of uncertainty and determination, carried a promise of hope.

"You sure?"

"Trust in me, Leon. I'll bring her back."
