Eros caught the older lady's wrist, looking up at her with slight tears in his eyes, making her feel bad for not answering him. She didn’t exactly lie; she just didn’t respond. He dropped to his knees as he looked up at her.

“Nora, please. I just want to know the truth. I’ve already lost one child before, and I don’t want to lose the chance to be a father again if Valerie is my child,” he pleaded, a tear sliding down his beautiful grey eyes.

Nora didn’t reply. Instead, she removed his hand from hers and went back inside, closing the door in his face. Eros stayed on his knees, crying, while she lay against the door, trying to calm her racing heart.

She felt terrible about what he said. She knew the pain of losing a child—she had lost hers when she was very young and poor. She didn’t want anyone to go through the same thing. That’s why she had dedicated her life to taking care of Elsa.

She canceled her earlier plans to go to the beach.
