After her lunch with her mother, Adela went to her next appointment and then called her father's secretary. She needed to talk to him. She did not need to delay their conversation and draw things out. This was what her family needed of her. She would do her duty.
"Is my dad available?" she asked the woman.
"He has an opening in fifteen minutes," came the reply.
"Okay," Adela said as she mentally went through her agenda for the next hour.
"How long does he have?" she asked, "I need to talk to him."
"Let me talk to him and come back to you," the woman said.
"Thank you," Adela responded.
"No problem, sweetie," the woman replied.
Adela smiled. Her father's secretary treated her like her own child, even though she was just fifteen years older. She did the same with Leroy, who liked to flirt with her, but her brother flirted with everyone.
