132 The Betrayer Is Him

Emilia’s POV

“Ding, ding—!” The sudden sound of a fork tapping against the edge of a glass echoed through the hall.

I froze in shock. Who could still be here in this vast banquet hall?

No one was supposed to be able to enter or leave the hall. Apart from the general, Lyle, and the soldiers kneeling on the floor, the hall should have been empty. But the sound of the glass being tapped—something normally done only by the host to get attention—rang out.

The Bear Kingdom soldiers reacted instantly, drawing their weapons and turning their attention toward the corner where the sound came from.

Amid the scattered white bones, someone kicked aside a skeleton, stepping out from the shadows. Dim light fell on golden hair, and his face slowly became clear.

“It wasn’t supposed to go this way, General,” the figure said, a sly grin playing on his lips as his gaze swept over Lyle and the soldiers on the platform.
