Chapter CVIII - Fighting (part 2)

Before long, two girls that went to get help from the infirmary arrived, bringing in one of the doctors. The class president, Elmone, explained to them that she was already healed. He said that a random healer arrived on the scene and healed them and left immediately.

The healer who came with them quickly shook his head and turned back to the infirmary, looking all pissed.

The teacher arrives not long after that. When he saw the state of the gymnasium, he whistled.

"Wow, you guys started without me. Fall in!"

He joked as he called the class to group up.

"Today, we will do a physical combat. Meaning no magic, no magic enchantment, no magic augmentation… No magic."

What the hell… then what's the point of magic academy as the name?

"Plus, you will use a wooden sword."

Oh, come on, now.

The teacher called out two names at a time, and then went quickly and started the spar. The two students then quickly formed a stance, and when the teacher began, the two quickly moved forward.

I can tell that they are completely incapable in terms of holding a sword... Let alone in actual combat.

It's as if they are merely holding a stick, and just swing them randomly until it hits. Watching them spar like newbies felt very painful for me. This is probably what Jrake felt when he first trained me…

Two names after another get called by the teacher, and then told to practice on a different spot. Even after you lose, you can still go back up and spar again. The point is to get as much practice as you can.

"This is pointless."

I got to spar with the boy that nearly grabbed my ass during the first day. He somehow stared at me all scared now, remembering how I somehow broke his hand very easily.

"Well, come at me how many times you want. Don't worry about me getting hurt."

"I-I see... Then I'll go ahead. Hooaa!!"

He charged at full force, like an angered gorilla. He struck as soon as he was in range, but I dodged his heavy attack. He turned his body and got ready for another attack, but I simply lifted the wooden sword and blocked his attack.

He attacked one strike after another, but all of them either got blocked by me or dodged.

The teacher saw my moves and got interested. I can feel his footsteps approaching.

"Well, hello there, swordswoman."

He suddenly calls me from behind like a creep.

But, the guy in front of me didn't hear the teacher coming, and he kept on attacking. I quickly moved my leg and kicked his footing. After losing his balance, he immediately fell to the ground, face first.

"What the hell!! You told me you won't atta--"

He immediately recognized the teacher standing a few meters behind me and went silent. I turned my gaze to the teacher, looking all confused.

"What do you say? Care to have a spar?"

The teacher asked as he lifted his wooden sword. I placed mine on the shoulder and glared at him with a demeaning look.

The two of us moved to a different spot where no one was around. The other students can only watch as the two of us prepare a stance.

"Oh dear… She is literally challenging the teacher now…"

The voice came from Milly, who came to the gymnasium because she was curious about the matter back at the canteen. She was present when Manda and Jericho got mocked by the class A students. She was actually going to stop the fight, but since the two agreed to a challenge, she can't do anything.

Plus, she had class. And right now, she excused herself to the bathroom so she could check what happened.

And what a good time, because I'm going to battle against the teacher.

I saw her on the railing on the spectators seat, and I immediately hesitated.

"Oh? Isn't that the council president?"

"Just ignore her…"

The teacher then focused his gaze back at me, noticing that I am facepalming. His grin is growing wide at the sight of his opponent not showing any openings on their stance.

"You are well trained, Adventurer… You must have fought a lot of monsters."

"Yeah, I have been in… lots of terrible situations."

"Hmph! Any time you are ready."

The teacher sharpened his stance, and I also formed my own. I turned my gaze at the boy who I was sparring with, and told him to do the count.

"Three... Two... One… Go!"

And just like that, the spar began. The teacher and I dashed forward at the same time, and judging from his move, I can tell he is no newbie.

KLANG!!!

Our wooden sword clashed as we passed one another, but my footing was faster.

I landed my front foot and dashed backwards. By the time the teacher turned around, I already had my wooden sword on his neck.

"Wow… That was very quick."

"Being quick was not the point. It's the action."

I moved back and let the teacher breathe. He leaned the sword on his shoulder and laughed.

"You know, I was also an adventurer. But I got old, and after I reached forty, I moved here."

He somehow started telling a story. Not that I mind, though.

"Let me guess… The headmaster found you and recruited you?"

"You are exactly on point."

"Well, that is as expected of him. I came here thanks to him too. Free of charge."

"Free of… That's nuts!"

"I know. That's what I said, hahah!"

The two of us laughed barbarically while everyone else just shook their heads and continued with their sparring. The teacher then walked around to correct the others on their spar. He also requested me to do the same, but I already expected this would happen, so I simply aided him.

Meanwhile, my sparring partner can only look around.

"H-Hey… What am I supposed to do?"
