Chapter CXLIV - Siege (part 1)

It was a… rather loud blast.

Even my ears went deaf for a bit there… holy shit.

My eyes were completely blinded while my flight simply lost any form of control. By the time I regained my focus, the first thing I realized was my position. I was no longer on the skies above Julius, because I got thrown really far away.

I am now falling at the other side of the skies above the floating island, far-far away from my original spot.

The next thing I realized was the time.

How long did I get knocked out…? Why did it go dark, so suddenly?

I opened my shadow wings and stopped my fall, and then I turned my gaze to the skies. The skies are completely dark, large amounts of black clouds are completely closing Xyphon from ever seeing the sun.

T-Those clouds…

I didn't do that… right?

How many firebombs was that…? Thirteen?

And they are all the size of ping pong balls… gees…

I could make even more than that… even larger than that…

I should… get used to this…

I shook my head to clear my thoughts and began flying back. Once I returned, I was told everything that happened by Julius.

After the blast, the dragon fell like a meteorite to the ground.

Luckily, it fell on a large road, so it didn't crash into any building and hurt anyone. The road was quite empty at the time too, so no one got hurt.

The arch-mage and I headed down to study the dragon, but it is already charred to coal to be able to get studied. Though we managed to get a sample of its teeth that is still intact.

Aside from that, skin, bone, scales, even the claws are completely gone. The dragon really got overcooked and exploded to oblivion.

The arch-mage turned his gaze at me after picking the tooth from the cooked corpse.

"You went... quite overboard here."

I turned my gaze to the skies, and I can't help but notice that I have turned the entire Xyphon dark. It's like the weather where anyone can tell it's going to rain, except it's not going to rain, it's just me being foolishly overpowered.

"Really? That was merely thirteen balls."

"... How many can you make?"

"Hundreds?"

"Ah... Let's just pick this up."

I chuckled before taking out my shadow wings and used my shadow magic to grab the dragon's corpse from the ground. I followed the arch-mage back to the middle floating island where we will place it on the mages headquarters.

After dropping the corpse on the ground in front of the arch-mage, I excused myself and headed back to the academy.

While I was flying back, I could feel the air felt different. Looks like the explosion up there really caused some difference in the air's pressure.

Sorry, Xyphon... but that thing can really kill the arch-mage.

I did go overboard, but… I genuinely wanted to know how much I can do. And now that I know, at least it's a lot easier for me to measure myself in the future.

After less than a minute of flying, I finally arrived at the academy, only to find the front court a little bit destroyed.

W-What happened here?

I went to the students at the park, and they looked quite panicked.

"What happened?"

"Monsters attack! The headmaster and Arfius is fighting them right now!"

One of the students said to me, panicking, and I quickly looked around.

"Where? Where are they?"

.

Fifteen minutes ago, around the same time the mutant dragon attacked the middle island.

"Hey! Don't teleport me randomly!!"

Arfius barked at the headmaster, but the headmaster was putting on a serious face.

"Arfius, listen to me. Something is coming to the academy."

Seeing the headmaster's serious face, he ignores the fact that he got teleported into the headmaster's room without his consent and quickly followed up.

"An enemy attack?"

The headmaster nodded heavily.

"They are powerful."

"W-Well, let's fight it! Where's Rize?"

"She is... away."

The headmaster let out a sigh. He stood up from his chair and walked to Arfius. He lightly tapped on his student's shoulder and the two teleported outside, to the front court.

The front court is large, and it can be used as the battle ground. But it is very close to the students in the classes building and park, so it might pose an issue.

Their only choice is to fight in the forest just under the cliff below the back court. But they first have to greet the enemies.

"Plauren. Set the academy to red alert."

The headmaster said to the communication device he had on his clothes. A voice replied from behind. It was Plauren's voice.

"H-Headmaster? I'm sorry, did I miss heard-"

"An enemy is coming to attack. Set the academy to red alert."

"Y-Yes sir!!"

For a while, nothing happened. But fifteen seconds later, a loud noise can be heard all over the academy. It's the alarm, saying that something bad is happening.

The same alarm was sounded when the academy got attacked by the demons. And this time, they are being approached by powerful beings.

"Say, how powerful are these enemies?"

Arfius asked the headmaster who was still watching the skies.

"There are only two of them, and there is probably more coming soon. But right now, the fastest coming towards us are... those two."

The headmaster pointed at the skies right in front of them. Far away in the distance outside of the academy, two black dots are approaching them rapidly, and each of them is carrying an incredibly immense pressure.

"Bloody hell… Can we even defeat them?"

"Yes we can. We have to, or else the other students will get hurt."

The headmaster puts on a stance immediately and gets ready to fight while Arfius activates his strongest form. Now that he has achieved the yellow lighting, a King tier lightning magic, his movements are three times faster than during his first year.

"Let's take their attention first. Then we will move them to the forest behind the back court."

"Got it."

The headmaster told Arfius about the plan while gazing at the two monsters flying at them at high speed. The two monsters stopped mid air around fifty meters away from them, and they studied one another.

"T-Those two..."

"Are no longer a human, nor a dragon..."

Arfius's eyes couldn't believe it. Three weeks ago, the academy was attacked by a mutant human-bear-thing. He didn't believe what it looked like when Rize told him, but seeing another one of its kind in person made him swallow all those things he said to Rize that day.

There are two of them, a blue and red scale. Each of those things had three wings. The left side has two smaller wings while the right side has one larger wing. Their faces are a lot flatter than what a dragon would look like, but their fangs are still there.

They had super long claws instead of a dragon's short nails, and the fingers looked disgustingly scary.

Their size is at least ten meters tall each, and their wings span over seven meters.

"So they can fly... Now what?"

"Now, we lure them."

The headmaster turned around and flew at high speed. Arfius followed him by turning into a blur of yellow lightning.

"ROOAAA!!!"

"RROOAAAA!!!!!!"

The two dragon chimeras behind them roared and chased.

The four entered a chasing game that included a slight fight on the front court and even damaged the middle building and the classes building in the process. The fight moved to the back court, and finally dropped down to the fifty meters cliff, into the forest underneath.

"Keep going! We need to bring it as far away from the academy as possible!"

The headmaster shouted while Arfius throws a lightning spear at the red scaled dragon. The spear of lightning stabbed the red dragon chimera and exploded into a billion volt of explosion, but it didn't damage the dragon at all. If anything, the stab wound is already healing.

"What the hell!?"

Arfius then continued his speed running under the trees while the two dragons spit giant fireballs at him.

They managed to cause some battle craters in the forest, all the way until they were far away from the academy.

"This should be good enough, Arfius!"

The headmaster stopped his flight, and Arfius turned around to face the dragons. Seeing that their targets stopped moving, the two dragons also halted their flight and studied the situation.

The four glared at one another deadly before finally clashing into a life and death battle.

The forest around them turned to craters in mere seconds from the explosions.
