Live again

She slid off the ring on her fourth finger, and it dropped to the floor with a sharp rattle sound echoing in the momentarily silent living room as it rolled at Zane's feet, abandoned.

It was their wedding ring.

Zane's eyes blazed with fury as he looked down at the ring lying at his feet. His jaw clenched tightly while he struggled to contain his seething anger.

Selina could not stay in the suffocating house any longer as she walked past him, dragging her luggage towards the exit.

She got to the door and met a figure at the entrance who was staring at her, speechless.

Selina could not tell if Jane heard everything that transpired between her and Zane, but she noticed a twinge of unease on Jane's face.

As Selina emerged from Zane's mansion, she breathed in the crisp night air, feeling a sense of freedom wash over her. The mist draped around her like a comforting cloak as she made her way down the quiet alley toward the dimly lit bus stop.

After a brief wait, a lone taxi came into view, and she eagerly hailed it. Settling into the back seat, she gave the driver a destination.

She gazed out of the taxi window, drowning in her thoughts as they journeyed on. She would disappear somewhere far away to keep her child hidden from Zane.

She snapped out of her trance after a long time, she noticed they were out of the city and that it was drizzling on the eerie silhouette of a light fog-covered road they were traveling on.

The atmosphere around the path was crispy, sending goosebumps on her skin. Her pulse quickened when the cab decelerated in the middle of nowhere.

She noticed the driver was strangely gazing at her reflection in the rearview mirror, which appeared terrifying, causing her heart to beat at a nervous pace and her body to tremble.

"This is not my destination. Why stop here?" She asked, fear revealing in her voice.

"It is disappointing that we can't cross this bridge together. So, I'm here to see you off, Selina," he said with his gaze still on her image in the rearview mirror, noticing that his strange words frightened her.

She had observed his image in the rearview mirror, but the cap he wore hid half of his face which made it difficult to discern his face.

A strange feeling overwhelmed her, and ominous thoughts ran through her mind because of the strange place and his aura.

She opened the back seat and dashed out of the car with her luggage into the drizzling rain. Hastening her steps, she looked around for a car or someone nearby whom she could ask for help to get away from these scary surroundings.

Unfortunately, there was no one around, nor was there an escape route for her to seek despite the fog having faded through the headlights of the car that brightened the bridge.

She glanced over her shoulder and caught sight of him following after her, which made her heart sink in fear that his intention for her would only be a dreadful thing, as he appeared menacing.

She attempted to run, but her ankle sprain caused her to fall helplessly to the ground after a few distance from the car, drenched.

"Ahhh…" she cried out in pain as tears were streaming down her cheeks, feeling her ankle hurt miserably.

She fearfully crept on her butt to the walkway of the bridge, trying to maintain a safe distance from him, who was still coming towards her, but her body stumbled on the concrete guardrail. She struggled to stand upright, looking at him with pleading eyes as he approached her.

"Tired of running?" He sarcastically said while he removed his mask.

The headlights illuminated on them like a spotlight, providing a clear view of his haughty face, much to her surprise, causing her heart to beat faster than it had ever beat before.

"Zane," she called his name in utter shock when she saw Zane was the cab driver, and it was his daunting voice, even though she didn't want to believe he was the one as the headlight shone on them.

"Yes, Little Bunny." He answered with a smirk while he retrieved an object from his back pocket and aimed it at her abdomen.

Seeing his deadly aim on her abdomen, she wrapped her arms around her tummy as she tried to block his target on her tummy.

"Please spare me, Zane. I'm begging. Let me go," she pleaded.

"Do you believe I can let you go so easily? How stupid of you to believe the divorce agreement." He said disdainfully. "Our marriage vow must be honored, and I hope we will never meet again, even in the next life, Little Bunny." He added.

A sinister smile rested on his lips before pulling the trigger.

BANG!

She heard a gunshot in the air and in the same pace came a rumbling thunderstorm in the dark sky.

In a second, she felt a sharp object pierced mercilessly through her skin into her chest as a traumatic gasp escaped her lips with her face twisted in agony, staring at him.

In another second, she slumped on the floor like a withered vegetable and he came to squat in front of her, watching her struggle for her life against death, who was at her doorstep.

Disheartened, hot tears were dripping from the corner of her ears as she stretched out a desperate and pleading hand for the Almighty to save her despite never believing there was one above the sky who controlled everyone's fate.

She was fighting to breathe when she felt her life slowly draining from her body.

No, I can't die this way without my revenge. Please let my unborn baby and I live again….

She sobbed in pain as she pleaded to live again. Her eyes steadily closed, soaking in the pool of her blood mixed with rain.

He wiped off the streak of tears from the corner of her closed eyes before he turned around, walking away.
