Henry was well aware.
Despite the polite exchanges on the chat channel, when it came to meeting face-to-face, one could never predict what others might do. Sometimes, humans could be more terrifying than zombies!
Having understood the basic situation of the survivors around him, Henry finally took out a can of luncheon meat. Using the light from the window, he ate half of it and drank most of a bottle of pure water.
Then, he lay down on the bed and fell asleep peacefully.
When he awoke, the day had already brightened. The number of zombies on the streets had decreased significantly. Fortunately, the armed zombie was still wandering in the same area, not having wandered off.
Henry finished the remaining half-can of luncheon meat and the rest of the water. Well-fed and hydrated, he felt much better.
He looked around the residential area. The woman in the low-cut evening dress who had been on the canopy was gone. There were no bloodstains. She might have been rescued or managed to escape on her own.
Overnight, three or four more zombies appeared in the complex. They were clustered around a window on the first floor of Building 2, as if something had attracted them there.
Whatever it was, it didn't matter. Henry decided it was worth checking out.
He wasn't confident about taking on a large group of zombies, but these three isolated ones were practically free for the taking. It would be a waste not to take them down!
Henry warmed up briefly in his room, then stepped out the door. The hallway was quiet.
The door of 102 on the first floor was still wide open, just as it had been the day before, unscathed by any zombies.
It seemed that the fifth floor was indeed a safe and hidden refuge.
Henry took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and silently charged toward the three distant zombies.
This time was different from before.
Previously, Henry had managed to kill seven zombies in one go because the woman in the low-cut dress had screamed, drawing their attention.
This time, there was no such distraction.
The zombies' hearing had become sharply attuned.
Just as Henry got within about seven or eight meters of the zombies, all three detected his presence!
They could even hear footsteps? These zombies were definitely the upgraded version!
"Heh heh..."
"Uh..."
"Howl...ah..."
All three zombies charged at Henry simultaneously.
The zombies were fast.
But Henry was not slow either.
As the zombies just began to react, Henry sprinted forward two steps and cleaved one zombie's head with his axe.
Then he used his shield to block the other two zombies' attacks, taking them down with one axe swing each.
He easily took care of all three zombies.
"Collect!"

[You have scavenged a zombie corpse, obtained Energy Cores*1, mutant fertilizer*3]
[You have scavenged a zombie corpse, obtained a broken key*1, mutant fertilizer*3]
The Energy Cores and mutant fertilizer were nothing new.
Henry was already very familiar with them.
He focused on the [damaged car key] and [broken key].
Soon, a prompt popped up again:
[These items are broken and useless!]
Henry promptly threw these two items on the ground, stowing the Energy Cores and fertilizer in his storage space.
He continued on his way!
Henry's goal was always clear.
The three zombies in the neighborhood were just an appetizer.
His real target was the zombie with a revolver that he had been watching all day!
In fact, in Henry's mind, the threat from other survivors was far greater than that from the zombies.
As long as you hide inside a safe house, zombies can't do anything to you.
At most, they'll surround it to prevent you from leaving.
But malicious survivors are a different story!
They can pick locks, climb, and even break into your safe house, drawing hordes of zombies to finish you off!
Guns, without a doubt, provide the best deterrence against other survivors.
[A zombie will soon emerge from around the corner. If you don't want a close encounter, I suggest you stop moving now!]
Henry left Building 2 and at the corner of a building, this warning suddenly popped up.
He immediately stopped, holding his breath.
He slowly raised his axe!
1 second...
2 seconds...
3 seconds...
"Ugh..."
A unique heavy moan of a zombie came from around the corner.
First, one foot stepped out, then the other.
Just as its head began to peek out,
Henry's fire axe viciously split the zombie's head in two!
[You have scavenged a zombie corpse, obtained Energy Cores*1, blood-stained clothing, mutant fertilizer*3]
[Blood-stained clothing]: It's been infected by the virus and has no use.
Just more useless junk!
Henry casually threw out the blood-stained clothing as well.
He stood at the corner of the building, looking into the distance.
This corridor had two branches, one leading to a deserted path that connected directly to the main road.
The other branch led to a small garden 50 meters away where two zombies were aimlessly wandering.
Taking advantage of the daylight, securing a handgun, and gathering more supplies was the best course of action.
Zombies are endless!
The world is never short of zombies!
There's no need to waste time here!
So, Henry kept his profile low and his footsteps light.
Seizing the moment when the two wandering zombies had their backs turned, Henry quickly dashed past them and made his way to the deserted path.
Pressing his back against the wall, Henry peeked out towards the road. Due to the scent of survivors attracting most of the zombies away from the armed zombie the day before, there were now only a dozen or so zombies scattered near his target.
However, in the distance, the scene was bustling with shadows and figures—there were so many zombies it made one's skin crawl!
Opportunities like this don't come often. If he didn't secure a firearm today, who knew what changes another night might bring?
A dozen zombies... If he took it slow, attracting them bit by bit, it should be manageable.
Henry picked up his axe and gently tapped it against the wall, producing a clear ringing sound.
"Ugh..."
The two nearest zombies on the road heard the noise and slowly turned towards it.
The effect was good—it only attracted two.
Using a parked car for cover, Henry kept close to the ground and continued to lightly tap his axe against the wall.
"Ugh..."
"Heh heh..."
The zombies shambled closer and closer to his position.
Henry noticed that the zombies' reaction to sound was proportional to the volume of the noise. When the sounds were soft, they would only move slowly towards the source. But if the noise was loud enough, their speed would surge dramatically—like sprinters in a hundred-meter dash, terrifyingly fast!
Patiently, Henry continued to gently tap the wall...
His eyes, peering through a car window, watched every move of the zombies.
They were close!
Even closer now!
Now was the moment!
