Catch him in the act

Colette rushes in, her face pale. "There's a problem," she said quietly. "I found something in Visha's office, and it's worse than we imagined."

"What?" I whispered, worry knotting my stomach.

-Come and see, she said, pulling me by the sleeve.

We quickly head towards Visha's office. Colette pushes the door and shows me an open drawer. Inside, neatly stacked wads of cash. Next to it, sachets of white powder and documents detailing questionable financial transactions.

-Drugs, money laundering... and that's not all, Colette whispers.

She opens another drawer to reveal thick files.

-Names, photos... of young women. I think Visha is involved in a prostitution ring, she adds

I suddenly feel nauseous. "We need to notify the police," I said, trying to stay calm.

"Not yet," Colette replies. "If we do it now, we could put ourselves and others in danger. We need to gather as much evidence as possible first."

I nod, trembling. "Okay, but we have to act quickly. If anyone finds out what we know..."

-I know, said Colette. "We have to be careful.

-Let's separate again, find everything we can, I added

I return to Donovan's office, more determined than ever. This time, I search with methodical precision. I discover a notebook hidden under the false bottom of a drawer. The pages are filled with cryptic notes, but some words and names jump out at me: appointments, payments, and even more names.

Back in the room, Colette and I compare our findings.

-I think we have enough to go see the police, Colette told me

I nod.

-I think we just need a few videos from Dobovan and then I think it will be good

We frantically photograph every document, every ticket, every piece of evidence. Once finished, we hide the originals in a safe place, ready to go and inform the authorities.

-We also have to be wary of Donovan, I said in a whisper. "I don't know why he has these photos of me, but he's probably involved too."

Colette looks at me with determination. "We'll get through this. Together."

We leave the house carefully, ready to reveal the truth and face the consequences.

-Wait, I said to Colette as we left the house. "There's another option. We can try to catch Donovan in the act. He often goes to a bar in town. If we can observe him doing something illegal, that will be further evidence. "

Colette looks at me, skeptical but interested.

-Do you really think we're going to be able to take photos and videos?"

-We have to try, I said, determined. "The more evidence we have, the better."

-But before we leave, let's set fire to the garage, Colette reminds me

-Yeah, our visit has to be memorable, I replied.

After that we decide to go to this famous nightclub. Sunglasses on our noses and a wig on our heads, we enter discreetly through the back door. The music is loud, and many people are dancing on the floor, swaying to the rhythm of the powerful bass. We decide to go up, because there is a secret floor at the top.

As we go up the stairs, we immediately smell a strange smell emanating from the room at the top. The door is slightly ajar, and inside we see Donovan with a just-coming-of-age girl sitting on top of him while he does drugs. Suddenly, a guy in the room senses our gaze and yells to ask who is there.

Without wasting a second, we decide to meet in the car parked right in front of the bar. We quickly go down the stairs and split up, entering the crowd to dodge them. As I pretend to dance in the crowd, I feel a hand grab my wrist. It was Koen.

-What are you doing here?, he asks, his gaze piercing through the darkness of the box.

-And what are you doing here?, I replied in surprise.

-I…I, how is that?

-No time to explain, I muttered, trying to free my wrist. "We need to get out of here."

Koen pulls me towards the emergency exit. "Come, follow me. We can't stay here."

We weave through the crowds, finally reaching the exit. Once outside, we run to the car. Colette is already there, her face pale with anxiety.

-Are you okay?, she asks when she sees me arriving with Koen.

-Yes, but they almost had us, I replied, still out of breath. "We have to get out of here, quickly."

Koen got in the car with us. "I'll come with you. I need to know what's going on."
