It was mid-September and it's raining daily now. I gazed long-suffering out my study window. There were no cases since the auction house. I was utterly bored. What were the spirits doing? Are they on holiday or something?
Mars lay snoozing on his bed, barely waking up for the last few days. Typical cat behaviour.
Feeling impatient, I got up and approached the feline. I nudged him awake. "What's it? Is it time for lunch?" he asked drowsily.
"No. I'm bored. Want to go look at houses?" I suggested. Mars and I were back to speaking terms. When the lazy cat groaned I ignored his moaning and simply picked him up.
We argued a lot about buying a new house, and I won every time. I called an Uber as I pulled on my shoes. I love my bike, but I hate getting wet. I glanced at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was growing exponentially fast.
At the moment, it lies between my shoulder blades. I carefully bound my glossy hair into a ponytail that hung over my shoulder and departed once the Uber pulled up. The driver was very talkative. Darn it. I positively hate when they have big mouths.
I searched on my iPhone for an open house within my modest budget of eight hundred million to nine hundred million won. There were only four houses within Nam-Gu. We went to the first one that was the nearest, a large three bedroom villa.
It was certainly vast. I couldn't help but stare at the fashionable rooms, the modern kitchen, and the fresh yard. "The terrace looks nice," Mars commented wryly. Obnoxious people bobbed their heads politely as I passed. Even the toilet was futuristic.
"I think I'll skip this place. It may make my potential clients uncomfortable," I muttered bitterly. Mars didn't object as I left the premises. The Uber was waiting patiently when I climbed in. "Where to, sir?" I checked my iPhone.
"Haedong Street, number three," I directed. The next house wasn't so modern, yet was just as impressive.
Ultimately, I was indecisive. They were all so extensive, and I didn't have much furniture. Mars jumped out of my arms as we came home. I sat thoughtfully on the plush couch I bought a few months earlier.
I gazed earnestly at my modest house. There had been many renovations completed for the last two years, but it still wasn't as modern as the houses we visited today. Additionally, it had a single parking garage.
"Mars?"
"Yes?"
"I think this place is the best. Let's stay," I said, satisfied. I was relaxed in my humble home. I didn't want to start all over again. Mars offered a toothy smile as he answered, "Good," he said smugly. And that was that.
I received an email the next day from a potential client. It was a father and daughter pair that will be visiting, and I was dead curious about their story.
