"Wake up Mia, or you're going to be late for school". My mom's voice pierced through my sleep.
I lazily stretched my body making some groaning noise. "Am up already" I said sitting upright, and rubbing my eyes.
And there she was, standing right by the side of my bed."Good morning mom" I greeted.
"Morning baby, Now stand up and get ready." She said in a trying to be strict tune. I nod my head in response and head for the toilet, while she left the room, closing the door silently..
I took out my toothbrush and dabbed a small amount of toothpaste on it, after wetting my brush, I started to brush my teeth while I observed my pale face in the mirror..
After a few minutes I was done, and I proceed to the shower.
****
When I finished. I thoroughly dried my body, and started to apply my lotion. The blend of vanilla and coconut scent taking up the oxygen in the room.
I had applied my hair oil and was ready to pick an outfit.
Most of the clothes I wear to school, are simple yet classy. My sense of fashion is inspired by k-pop idols and models. And I love dull colours, I don't like sparkly and barbie stuffs. I'll leave that for the plastics in my school
I decided to go for cargo shorts, a long sleeve collared, white shirt, black chunky loafers, with a pair of white socks and a black neck tie.
Once dressed, I put few of my notes, into my black small bagpack.
After spraying my favorite fragrance, which is Victoria Secret. I left the room.
On getting to the kitchen, my mom already made breakfast, which was a French toast and a cup of orange juice.
"C'mon now eat up" my mom said placing the food on the table.
"Thanks mom".
I finished eating almost immediately, and gulped down the cup of juice.
"Thanks mom" I said clearing my plates and taking it to the sink.
"I'll take it from here baby" My mom said, pulling my cheeks.
"You should head to the bus stop now okay"
"Yeah, sure. Am not a baby mom" I said groaning, as I turned to leave.
"you've got everything you need??" she asked in a loud tune.
"Yes I do" I shouted back.
"Love you Mia, and stay safe" she yelled again, and I wasn't that far from her.
"love you too mom"I said slamming the door behind me.
The bus stop wasn't that far, is just a few meters away from my house. And it's going to take me about 15 minutes to get a bus, and 30 minutes to get my school. I definitely have to walk really fast to meet up.
A few minutes later I was at the bus stop, and now I just have to wait for 15 minutes, I took out my headphones, and zoned into the world of music.
****
15 minutes passed, there was no bus. And that was really odd. I can't be any late on the first day of the week.
I considered ordering an Uber, that would affect my allowance, but my mom wouldn't mind.
And within minutes, the Uber arrived.
Bending a little so I could get a glance of the driver.
Behold my Uber driver was Prince. My school mate.
The most popular and mysterious girl in my school. I stood there transfixed staring for a while.
"You're gonna come in or what?" She asked grinning.
"uhh..yeahh" I stammered opening the back door.
" You don't want to sit at the front?" she asked .
"Nahh, am good here" I said quietly, locking the door. She shrugged and started the car.
I was damm curious, How did she turn out to be my driver, how did she get the car. So many hows?...
Who's Prince?
Prince—As she's popularly called. She's my senior in school. she is in the fourth year, while I am in my second. I don't really know much about her. But rumors have it that she's gay and an orphan. I don't think the gay part was just a rumor. She proudly wears rainbow accessories to school, join the parades and ecetra.
"So you're in what department?" she asked, her blue eyes staring at me through the rearview mirror.
I can't believe I was damn nervous. "Computer Engineering" was my short reply.
She clicked her tongue, and kept driving. I wasn't really expecting her to say anything.
"How about you ?" I asked playing with my fingers,
"I'm in Marketing" was her short response.
"You have a very mature and lit fashion sense" she complimented.
"And you're freaking hot!!" I screamed in my head
"Thank you, you're not bad either" was what came out of my mouth.
I could feel the corner of her lips, curved Into a wry smile even without looking at the mirror.
"So what's your name?" she asked.
"Mia. my name is Mia" I answered.
"Nice to meet you Mia" ...
"Jeez", she said slowing down
"What's the issue" I asked peering sitting upright.
" Seems the protests is getting worst". she said, turning off the car, and relaxing her back on the seat.
Somehow the scent of her shampoo filled my nose.
"What protest?" I asked, confusion written all over my face.
And she turned and gave me that face that says, "how on earth don't you know what's going on in your own country".
But she didn't say anything.
"Why do you think, there was no bus this morning?" she asked calmly.
"I have absolutely no idea why" I answered truthfully.
And everywhere was quite for a while.
"You should watch the news often you know" She said rolling her eyes.
I didn't know what to feel after she said that, but she was right. I should start watching news and give the literary world a break.
"I guess, you won't be telling me what the protest is about" I asked , putting back my headphones which have been on my neck since I entered the car. Am definitely going to be late today.
I was already getting engrossed in the songs blaring out of my headphones when I noticed, she had turn on the car, and was already reversing.
"Sorry, what's going on?" I asked taking off my headphones.
"I need to get you to school" She said causally.
I looked ahead, the crowd was still there, and there's no way, anyone could drive at the moment.
"I know another route" she said as though she read my mind.
