Prince managed, to maneuver her way out of the crowd. And soon we were heading to our school.
The rest of the drive was a silent one. I was kinda feeling bad, that this was the one golden opportunity I got, you know to talk to the most popular stud in school and here I am, not using it at all. I shrugged and put back on my headphones. If she isn't interested in having any conversation, why should I?
The route Prince took was way longer, so my aim of going to school early, have been thwarted.
*****
After 50 minutes of the long boring drive, I could finally sight the statue in front my school.
She drove towards the parking lot, and when she parked, the car I got down.
I had already pay for the ride, so any normal person was meant to start walking to class. But I find myself standing still by her window pane.
"You need something?" She asked, her blue eyes peering into mine.
"Err.. No....Not really" I stammered. F*** Mia, what the hell is wrong with you.
"Okay....." She said, obviously emphasizing that I should say whatever was in my mind.
"Well, I thought you would also be ... Nevermind" I blurt out.
"Have a Nice day" I said, turning away immediately to hid my flushed face.
"You too, and I don't have any classes today" She said, as she brought the engine of her car back to life, winding up her glass.
I turned around as well, and started walking towards the school block.
"Miaaaaa" my best friend voice rang across the hall, as she came running towards me.
"And you don't have to be loud about it" I said, sighing as I opened my arms to receive her embrace.
"Shut up babe, I was worried" She said hugging me, more like squeezing me.
"Okay that's enough" I said, my voice already going off, because I was loosing my breathe.
"Sorry", she said pulling out
"Em hmm" I said stretching my neck.
"How'd you get to school?"
"An Uber" I responded shortly as we started walking towards our lecture hall.
My only best friend. Jane.
We've been friends since forever, and she's the only person I have a tight bond with, apart from my mom.
We have alot of things in common. We both have one parent, we both love technology, although she's in robotics, we love k-pop, we love hotpot, tofu, and rice. we are both closeted, she's bi, and I'm queer. she loves books..."
"Oh my, that's expensive" she said interrupting my thoughts and stating the obvious.
"Yeah, Mom's gonna understand" I said sighing.
"Look over there" she said using her eyes to point to some group of girls, all claded in colourful outfits.
I rolled my eyes. Since our first year, Jane has been crushing on one of the plastics. She had even tried been friends with the girl, but it ended in tears.
"You'll never learn, Jane" I said , dragging her to another section of seats.
"I really don't know what you see in that girl" I said slightly irritated.
" You don't get it Mia, she's different.."
"Yeah, yeah" I said cutting her short
"you deserve better, you know, you should fall for someone , who values and love you a lot. Not for some pink, barbie girl, who is controlled by her friends, just because she's trying to fit in." I said, not minding whatever effect it was going to have on her.
Besides this is like the 100th time I have told her this, and am willing to keep saying it till she gets back to her senses.
"So tell me about your Uber driver" She said, obviously changing the topic.
"What about her?" I asked, I wasn't ready to tell my dumb bestie about Prince, she's gonna change the whole narrative.
"It was a girl...." She said, her eyes widening in awe.
"Yeah,it was" I said taking out my book, obviously not liking where this conversation is heading to.
"Was she cute?" she asked curiously.
"Yeah, she was" I answered giving off a slight smile.
"Rate her out of a 10" she said nudging me.
"Jeez, Jane" I said laughing
"You're were smitten by her beauty right" she smirked.
"Shut up" I said, my cheeks becoming warm.
"Ahh ha, got you there" she said laughing.
"You were obviously smitten by her beauty, did you try to talk to her?" She asked. I sighed this girl really want to put words in my mouth.
"No I didn't." I said, watching her face fall in disappointment.
"For real, mann, Not even her name?" she asked .
"Nope she didn't have to tell me."
She gave me that confused looked. " So you know her name?"
"It was Prince, Jane" I said, almost regretting it.
She looked at me in disbelief.
"No way" she said utterly shocked.
"Yes way, She was my Uber driver." I said sounding proud.
" Wow, and you didn't get her number or something" she asked, sounding really dumb.
"C'mon now, that's something I can't do, you know." I said rolling my eyes at her.
"Wow, just wow. That could be a huge sign, you know" She said, her mischievous smile playing on her face.
"Don't start please, do not bring bullshit about fates here" I said, groaning.
She gave off her stupid giggle. "I won't, but when something eventually happens, remember what I said". She sneered.
The speaker boomed, disrupting our conversation.
"Students we have Important News"
"The school authorities, have decided to join the protests. Until the government solve the emergency at hand. We would be on break. Best regards everyone"
And alot of chatter ensured as soon as the announcement ended.
" I can't believe this" Jane said. " Our examination is to commerce in two weeks time, and they decide to join the protest."
The announcement was not good news to the students at all.
We all want this semester to end. And now it's been delayed.
" There's no class today" I heard someone said in the noisy environment.
I suddenly remembered Prince, said the same thing, before she drove off.
