Chapter 178: Allies and Enemies

Max stood in the shadow of the old cathedral, its gothic spires piercing the night sky like accusing fingers. The city stretched out below, a labyrinth of secrets and lies. Rain drizzled down, the drops glistening on the cobblestones like tears. He pulled his collar up, the damp chill seeping into his bones. The rendezvous was set for midnight, but he'd learned long ago that punctuality was a rare commodity in this line of work.

Mia emerged from the darkness, her silhouette a specter of grace and danger. She moved silently, her eyes scanning the surroundings with a predator's instinct. When she reached him, she gave a curt nod, her expression unreadable.

"Elena and Cassandra are in position," she said, her voice a low whisper, almost lost in the wind. "Jameson's tailing our target. We've got all the exits covered."

Max nodded, his eyes fixed on the cathedral's looming structure. "Good. Let's hope he shows."
