There was just something in her tone that screamed danger, yet the room was packed with odd people and Hoitsu's mind wasn't there to keep him focused on these small details.

So he complied, the human picking a small cup as the waiter left them alone once again and the discussion evolved with some curious topics.

"I've heard that you saved Yasaka-san's daughter, little Kunou," The mysterious girl pointed out with a hum. "It had to have been quite frightening to keep calm while protecting her by the people that were trying to kidnap her."

The young man nodded at that. "That was some difficult situation, yes… but I was lucky enough to avoid getting killed in the process."

"Oh my, I suppose it has to have been a dreadful having to deal with quite the impressive amount of magicians and..." She paused, her head tilting a little bit to the side. "I've also heard that you had to fight one of the last Nekoshou, I think her name is… 'Kuro'-something?"

"Kuroka," Hoitsu corrected quickly, nodding at the young man as she seemed to gain some surprise in her feature. "The magicians were actually easy to trick around but… I admit I wouldn't have survived against her if it hadn't for Kunou's help."

She giggled a little. "But please, you couldn't just admit defeat without having given your best."

"To be fair, I had to limit myself because of the small space we had been fighting and… I couldn't just use some of the spells that would've been helpful against her."

The masked woman blinked, her lips twitching at his words as she nodded. "Fair enough, I suppose that the sewers wouldn't have been the best of places to fight by."

The human nodded again, this time stopping for a moment as he felt like she had just said something… wrong?

But as he tried to ponder over it, the same waiter came around and handed out another pair of Sake-filled cups to their table.

The young man's mind was incredibly unfocused in that moment, and the conversation that followed from that third cup was oddly… fun.

The two were incredibly affected by the alcohol, the young woman's game crumbling a little as her act of carefulness ceased in what turned out to be a playful exchange of words.

Mere moments later, the two were either chuckling or giggling over anything silly happening by their proximity, abandoning each other at that drunk stupor about the world around them.

Yet all fun had to eventually come to an end and… it was actually the masked woman that conceded defeat against the beverage served by the waiters.

"I-I think I will take a walk… I don't think I can-"

"D-Do you want some company?" Hoitsu offered with some concern. "It's quite crazy here and-"

The girl giggled at his words. "I might end up throwing up~," She pointed out cheekily and the young man shrugged.

"Then I will hold you hair when it happens."

The reply was met with surprise as her face displayed quite the shock at the unexpected counter to that… but she kindly accepted the proposal and soon the two masked figures decided to wander out of the room and around the palace's halls.

"Do- Do you think we are doing something wrong by-"

"No-Not truly," Hoitsu interrupted politely. "Since you need some fresh air, it should be allowed for you to have that much."

She sighed. "You know, I- I didn't expect you to be this- this legitimately… chivalrous."

"Why not?"

"Well…" The young woman didn't conclude that reply. "Actually- do- what do you think of Kuroka?"

It was a sudden question, something that got the human to frown in confusion… but easily label that to a mere case of drunk deviation.

He shrugged. "I-I suppose she isn't… really a bad person."

…

"Wha- Why?" The woman pressed on with a certain interest over the subject.

"I've… heard of her situation," The young man replied calmly, limping a little as his brain was getting tired the more they walked. "About why everyone label her insane for killing her King and the rest of her former peerage… but I think- I think that there is more to it."

…

"Like?"

"It just sounds so much like… Do you know Naruto?" The Magician asked before continuing, getting a slow nod from the woman much to his increasing surprise. "Well… she sounds like one of the characters from that series since she spared her remaining family member, plus the excuse of 'testing her limits' it's just a blatant copy of that very character's motivation to kill his own family and spare his little brother."

She hummed at his comment, her head bowing a little as she sighed. "I guess it does..."

"Hmm?"

"N-Nothing- I… but what do you think of her since… you've fought her?"

Hoitsu contemplated over the question, thinking back about that horrible instance where he came close to face death… or even something else he wasn't planning to do anytime soon- especially with an enemy.

"She was… quite annoying. Her main quality is her surprising capacity to get under people's skin and… make them nervous. I suppose that she is-"

"But what do you think of her as… a person?"

…

"W-Wha-"

"I-I mean, there has to be more other than that," The masked woman reiterated, and the young man nodded.

"I suppose- she would be an interesting individual to interact with… if we weren't enemies," The magician commented loosely. "She tried to kidnap Kunou and-"

"But what if-" The girl paused on her interruption, easing up and sighing. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't… be asking you about-"

"Just ask," The young man interjected as calmly as his drunken state allowed him to. "If there is something you wish to know, I suppose- I suppose I can tell you."

Her eyes widened again and… she gave a genuine happy smile at that.

"T-Then can I ask you if… what would happen if Kuroka decided to try and… recover her sister?"

'What would indeed happen if that happened,' Hoitsu thought silently about it, imagining the incredible conflict it would happen between Rias, her peerage, and the older Nekoshou.
