Chapter LXXXIX: The Last Meeting

Upon arriving at the papal palace and after receiving approval to lead the celebration for the transfer of the Pope's body to the Sistine Chapel, which was completed just a few years ago, I went to try to talk to Cesare and see if I could calm him down, or at least ease his pain.

"Cesare, are you okay? If you need anything—"

"Antonio, leave. I don't need anything right now. Anyway, my father's funeral will be our last meeting."

"So, you want to break off the engagement, correct?" I asked Cesare seriously.

"That remains to be seen. Until then, I don't want you near me, and you should also thank Sforza for being the main celebrant tonight..."

Is he somehow jealous of my relationship with Sforza? Well, that would be the last idea that would cross his mind at these moments. Perhaps it's because I couldn't save his father when I could save other people much less important than Pope Alexander VI.
