---Rome, 1492, Papal Residence---

As is well known, the Pope had the power to crown and depose kings, changing the destiny of empires. The Church was already extremely corrupt, and things were getting worse. On top of all this, Pope Innocent VIII (1484–1492) was on his deathbed, preparing to meet his Creator. The Papal Throne had already lost its true purpose and had become a coveted prize for many, including the Borgia family.

"May the Body of Christ protect you from evil and guide you to eternal life!" the priest said as he gave the dying Pope his final communion.
