Chapter CVIII: Was Pope Alexander's Election Valid?

Well, after the event in the city, Cesare returned to his mother's mansion, where his younger siblings Gioffre and Lucrezia, along with their mother, were also present. Of course, the whole family had heard of the former Pope's death and the beginning of the Conclave to elect a new Pope, wondering if there was a chance that Rodrigo would become Pope.

For some of them, it seemed like a distant dream, but Cesare already knew what to do. However, Vanozza seemed to feel that once her partner and the father of her children became Pope, he would grow even more distant from her than he had been before. That did happen, and it led to his death, but it seems that their relationship is starting to mend in some way.

"We can only pray. The Conclave is in God's hands!" Vanozza said with faith in God.

"It's in the hands of the College of Cardinals, which isn't quite the same, don't you think?"
