Chapter 15: Unknown threat

"I suggest we set out while the Azazechs protect the base." Wake suggested, his chin resting on his arms.

"I think so too," Yuno agreed, "We'll run out of food at this rate."

"Alright then, it's decided."

Kiyo sighed, the supplies he hoarded before the apocalypse got depleted faster than what he anticipated.

"We'll pair up into teams, Noah and Azarick, Maddy and Wake, Yuno and Vin, any questions?."

"What about me?" Violet's face appeared gloomy as she pondered whether she had been accidentally overlooked or left behind, feeling a tinge of bitterness.

"Of course you'll be coming with me."

"It's decided then!" Yuno exclaimed with determination. "We have our directions sorted - Vin and I will head south, Noah and Azarick are assigned east, and Maddy and Wake are taking the western route. As for you, don't forget to search the north; powerful mutants tend to appear frequently in that direction," he reminded the team.

After sorting out all the necessary equipments and supplies, the group split into four directions, each filled with excitement and determination.

Meanwhile,

On the northernmost side of the West Sun City, a base of what appeared to be survivors stood tall.

While not being as imposing and magnificent as Kiyo's domain's walls, The base's strong walls seemed strong enough to survive the attacks of tier 3 animals. The eerie sight of zombie carcasses menacingly piling up a small mountain on the exterior was a harsh testament to the ceaseless battles fought.

"Boss, all zombies within our territory has been cleaned up."

A man with white hair and pointy chin reported, the sharp blade in his hands still soaked in the bloods of whatever kind of beings he killed.

Before him, a tall and bulky guy, his hair as dark as the night sky, stood in majesty; a beauty stands beside him, her hair dyed crimson red, much like the blood flowing on the ground below them.

The couple glanced at the small mountain of corpses, giving an approving nod.

"Great job, remember to collect all the crystals within them," the man commanded.

'Fuck, this bastard only knows how to order people around,' the white-haired man silently thought, not daring to say anything.

"What are you waiting for, bitch?!" The seemingly timid and noble lady shouted, her face distorted from anger.

The white-haired man quickly turned around before commanding the team of armed youths to retrieve all crystals from the corpses.

"Kiyo, don't you think it's strange?" Violet softly muttered, "We haven't encountered any zombies nor beasts above tier 3, we've been travelling for an entire day."

"That could only mean one thing," Kiyo's face turned grim, "An extremely high tiered being appeared or a group of it did!" He exclaimed.

"Let's continue further north."

Violet's delicate face darkened, "Yuno did say about high tiered mutants appearing here, yet we haven't encountered one."

The unknown threat that lingers around them, hiding in the dark streets of West Sun City, made the two keep their vigilance 24/7.

"I wonder how the others are doing, especially that timid girl with you," his gaze falling on Violet, as if thinking of something.

"Well, even if she's a bit timid, she's still a peak stage 2 awakener." She shrugged.

Kiyo, too, just shrugged it off. "Wake is enough to ensure their safety. Or at least that's what I think."

"Let's rest for the night, we'll set out again tomorrow." Violet suggested, his face showing a tired expression.

"Sure, we're near the first target location too. Let's continue tomorrow morning." Kiyo agreed.

The two changed direction, leaping towards the villa district in the inner circle of the city.

…..

The problem is…. there's only one bedroom left undamaged…

"Well… this is the least damaged villa in the district, it's quite near the target location too…" Kiyo explained.

"I'll sleep on the couch.." Violet answered, heading for the small couch at the corner.

Kiyo looked at Violet's back with reluctance.

After hesitating for a while, he spoke, "The bed is quite spacious… we must rest well too for tomorrow's journey."

He then proceeded to lay on the single king-sized bed, his body facing the wall.

Violet hesitated for a while, considering Kiyo's hesitation.

'We haven't known each other for a while but he seem trustworthy… How would I get married at this rate, arghhhh!'

Internal conflict arose inside her head.

In the end… The two fell asleep on the not-so-spacious bed.

Their back touching one another under the cover of a single blanket.

As the hours passed, the night gradually deepened, enveloping everything in an eerie darkness.

Suddenly, the clock struck twelve, casting an ominous crimson red hue across the sky. In this unsettling moment, the howls of unseen beasts pierced the serenity, blending with the haunting growls of the undead that seemed to echo endlessly through the night.

The once peaceful streets of the doomed world, now filled with all kinds of beasts and undeads; the hidden creatures of the day now emerged into the crimson night.

As chaos took place in their very surroundings, the two slept peacefully with smiles on their faces.

The unexpected turn of events caused the two bodies to intertwine in an intricate dance, shifting from their original positions with their backs facing each other to a more intimate and calming one in which they rested their heads lightly on each other's chests for comfort.

The two people in question, of course, were totally oblivious of their own situation as they took comfort in the warmth and safety of each other's affectionate embrace. Absorbing themselves in the profound connection they had, they were oblivious to the outside world and found solace in their unity.

The cries of unknown beasts lurking in the shadows blended menacingly with the haunting voices of the undead, which resonated through the darkness of the night. A sensation of impending dread pervaded the surroundings as the eerie sounds became louder and closer, giving one goosebumps down their spine.

"Thud! Thud!"

The two had been sleeping well when there was an abrupt loud pounding sound from downstairs, which jolted them out of their sleep causing them awaken up.
