A Different Person

Weisheng casually drove back to his office with Xiaoling. She kept staring at him with multiple questions in her head.

"What is it, Master?" He asked with a sigh, unable to contain his frustration from her glares.

Xiaoling quickly looked away, "I was just wondering," She murmured, "Why is Yang Bo so down for her…"

Weisheng half-chuckled, "Are you jealous?"

"Huh?!" Xiaoling looked at him with disgust, "He's literally like my son or something!"

"Are you listening to yourself right now?" Weisheng scoffed in amusement, "You're clearly younger than him."

"No, no," Xiaoling shook her head, "You don't get it. It's like, you know when an actor is so cute and goofy. Saying that he's like my son is a fangirl thing. You won't get it."

Weisheng nodded, "I'll pretend I understood that."

"But seriously, why do you think he won't sue her? Like, she obviously wronged him!" Xiaoling complained.

"Maybe because he has known her for more than ten years. If their relationship went as far as being engaged, then you can guess it must've been hard to let go." He explained, "That's what I think."

"I thought you were bad with girls…"

"I'm bad with people, Master." Weisheng sighed, "I think you've seen it enough to know that."

Xiaoling hummed, "I think you were pretty eloquent, though."

"At work, I'm forced to be that way," Weisheng clarified, "I wouldn't go out of my way to hold conversations like that if not for work."

Xiaoling chuckled, acknowledging his introvertedness. She was still surprised at the show he put up today. She had gotten so immersed in it that she forgot the reason she switched places with Xiaodan.

"By the way," Weisheng muttered, "Did you find answers? You said you'd investigate our secret from yesterday."

Xiaoling coughed, "Oops… I forgot."

Weisheng wasn't surprised, "I thought so. What were you looking for? The tax evasion case is no longer my work until the trials, so I can help out."

Xiaoling's eyes widened. That was the last thing she would expect from the likes of Weisheng. It was strange that he was willing to help her other than solving his other problems - the reality of the Gao Bojing case and his father's case.

"Are you sure you want to help me?" She asked skeptically.

"I have nothing else to do. After reporting to Mr. Liu, I'm basically a free man." Weisheng said, "Unless you want to train me… But then again, we need to solve that problem first, or else I would never forward."

"I'm going to be honest," Xiaoling narrowed her eyes, "You're acting suspicious."

Weisheng stopped the car for a signal, turning his head to look at her. Although Xiaoling wore a youthful makeup look, she still had a mature look in her eyes, a kind of look only those with experience have.

"Are you wondering why I'm not trying to go to Yun Shui and ask for my dad's case reports? And why I'm not looking into why Cang Tao had to murder Bojing?" Weisheng asked with a straight face.

Xiaoling nodded, "Yeah. That's exactly what I'm wondering."

Weisheng pulled the car over as soon as the signal went green. He stopped the car, but his grip on the steering wheel tightened.

"I've been wanting to tell you this," Weisheng looked at her, holding the steering wheel tightly, "This curse makes me feel like a different person when I'm around you. And everything else? It renders it useless." He admitted, "Right now, I have no intention of looking into any case. If you're away, I might go and murder Yun Shui for hiding my dad's reports from me." He explained bluntly.

Xiaoling's eyes widened. His eyes were brown, so why did he talk like that?

"Weisheng," She called him, "This is you, right?"

Weisheng clenched his eyes shut and pulled his head back to rest on the seat. He hit the steering wheel in frustration.

"This is what I meant," Weisheng exhaled, "If I don't think before speaking, I always say some shit like that."

Xiaoling frowned, "When did you first notice that?" She asked while slowly reaching for his eyes. She placed her hand on his eyes. He was freezing.

"I'm not sure," Weisheng stayed still, "But whatever you're doing makes it feel better."

"This is strange," Xiaoling kept her hand on his eyes, releasing her pure Yin-natured Internal Energy to suppress his Yang-natured curse.

Weisheng pushed her hand away to look at her, "Master, I think you need to look into this before I actually end up killing another person." He gulped.

Xiaoling frowned in concern, "Stay by my side, then. If what you're saying is a fact, then being away from me will make the curse stronger. I think it's because I'm suppressing it with my Internal Energy." She rested her chin on her hand, "I just never heard about distance disrupting Internal Energy…"

"I don't think it's because of that," Weisheng said, "I have something else on my mind."

Xiaoling looked at him with anticipation, "And that is?"

Weisheng looked away, showing hesitation.

"Seriously?" Xiaoling scoffed, "How can you second-guess? Just tell me. You have the curse, so you might know better!"

"I think…" Weisheng murmured before pressing his lips, "I think…"

"I think what?!" Xiaoling complained, "Weisheng! You're driving me insane!"

Weisheng sighed deeply, "I think the Supreme Demon Lord… has a thing for you… you know what I mean?"

Xiaoling paused for a while, trying to process the information. She burst into laughter, slapping his shoulder.

"Are you serious?!" She broke into hysterics.

"I'm serious!" But Weisheng was dead serious, "If he doesn't have a thing for you, then why can't I get you off my mind?"

Xiaoling stopped laughing and looked at him bluntly, "That just means you have a thing for me…"

Weisheng coughed loudly, choking at her words.

"Did I hit the spot?" Xiaoling playfully asked while chuckling, "I'm good at seducing, Weisheng," She tried to comfort him sarcastically, "Don't let it get to you!"
