Chapter 6 Drake

My vision was blurry but I could slightly see a figure standing before me. The pain from the arrow had subsided and my heart had a normal pace.

"You should lie down to allow the wolf bane flow out completely. You were lucky it didn't get to your heart before I found you."

The young daring man before me was dashing; his long hair curled perfectly down his shoulders. He was muscular but had a strange dress on and a necklace that seemed like an ancient relic hanging on his neck. His eyes were grey and his eyebrows curved perfectly on the ridge above his eye sockets. He had an amazing face.

For the second time, I had been saved by a stranger. I hoped that this stranger would not hurt me like the first.

"Who are you?" I mouthed softly pushing my body to a sitting posture with my hands. I looked at myself and noticed that I was covered with what seemed like a cape.

"I am Drake. Don't worry, I didn't get to see much." He noticed the inquisitive and vexed stare I gave him when I realized that I had passed out naked. he had applied some herbs on the wound on my thigh. He smiled at me revealing well-structured set of teeth.

For a moment I wondered what the young man must have been doing in the forest to have found me at night but his radiance forced me to ignore the curiosity I had.

Drake stayed with me for a while tending to my injury. He brought me fish and some water to regain my lost strength and applied more herbs to my injury.

"This would ease the pain and reduce the toxicity of the poison." His hands were soft, he gently rubbed the green substance on the surface of the injury. His contagious smile eased the pain I felt from the herbs touching my wound.

"Where are you from?"

"I don't know. But certainly not from around here."

The strange man's response got me wondering if he was real. "Maybe the Moon Goddess sent him to rescue me." I thought.

"You don't have a Pack or belong to a town? Who are your parents?"

I was determined to find out who truly he was. He seemed like a mystery and I needed to unravel it.

"I grew up in an Orphanage in Roseville. I don't know who my parents are or where I am from."

I took a long stare at him. "Are you…" I couldn't finish up the words but glanced at him thoroughly.

"Oh no, I am not like you."

He was Human! The fact that he knew that I was a Werewolf and still was not afraid of me puzzled me "Who is he really?" I thought.

He took interval glances at me smiling. He was rested on a tree close to my tent biting on a piece of mackerel roasted on the fire.

"You know what I am?"

"Oh yes! Not all Humans are completely ignorant of your existence."

His confidence was alarming. He stood up and walked towards me then he sat beside me taking in a deep breath.

"I was left with a book, these clothes and this necklace by the man who brought me to the Orphanage." Holding up the silver necklace with a bronze pendant that looked like a dragon he looked at it for a while and placed it back on his chest. I looked at the necklace too wondering why someone would give such to a child.

"I read about Werewolves, Witches and Vampires in my book. I know a lot about your kind; about the moon goddess and the original Lycans, the first Werewolves."

He obviously had more knowledge of supernatural creatures than I did. I was intrigued.

"So have you met a Werewolf before now?" I was curious to know about him. Talking to him eased my pain also making the injury heal faster.

"Not really, I have been in search for years until I recently stumbled upon this forest. My book led me to the woods. I was delighted when I found you."

"And you were not afraid?"

"Well I was but what is life without adventures."

His daring character was surprising but attractive at the same time.

"Come I want to show you something."

I stood up to properly put on the red cape and he shifted his gaze from me taking few steps away.

"You can turn now."

He grabbed me by my hands and we made our way through hidden paths to a destination I knew nothing about. I was completely healed within a short time, one of the benefits of being a Werewolf.

We walked for a while and got to another edge of the forest through the path of the stream which flowed into a river. The cooling breeze hit my face causing my long hair to ruffle across my face. There was a mountain closely fitted across.

Drake walked towards some shrubs and pulled out what had a close resemblance to a canoe with a stick.

I watched him as he dragged the object into the water and went on it.

He extended his hands and for a while I shrugged not sure of what he was on about.

"You can't be afraid of a Human now; are you?"

His words were really provoking. I sighed and got into the canoe completely ignoring his grin.

He pedaled with a tree branch

We got to the other side of the river and got down then Drake dragged the canoe out of the river and hid it carefully between some rocks beside the mountain. I watched him for a while admiring his courage and craftsmanship.

He went into a cave in the mountain and when he noticed that I stood and watched him, he turned and signaled to me to follow suit.

"Come on."

The entrance of the cave was ominous and shaped like the mouth of a wolf; I could see tiny crystals reflecting rays of light as I entered into the cave. There were little tunnels at different angles in the cave and water streaming through a path across some parts of the floor.

Drake took out a torchlight from a little brown leather bag and turned it on making the ambience brighter. By one corner inside the cave were rocks piled up to form a bed with dry leaves carefully placed on top of them and covered with animal skin.

On the wall were several markings; dates, drawings and strange symbols that I had never seen. Drake had spent a lot of time in the cave.

That was the beginning of life with a Human stranger. And even though I had warned him about the ferocious wolf with a vengeful rage that emerged at night, he only got more excited about the entire situation.

Surprisingly, I spent two days with Drake and my wolf never came out. I was wary of Kira's presence but she made no attempt to dominate as she always did. Staying with Drake had a strange effect on me.

But that was the beginning of a new world of challenges and experiences. I was never prepared for the way my life was turning to. One moment I was a weak Werewolf; the next moment I became a ferocious Werewolf occupying a strange body and then I had surrendered my fate to a stranger, a Human. What more could be hidden?
