The darkness of the night made our paths blurry but that wasn't so favorable for Drake Alaina, luckily, his torchlight was inside his handbag. Dipping his hand inside the bag, he brought it out and turned it on illumining his path.
Into the woods we ran still without any prior intentions of getting to any particular destination.
"I can't believe you stood up against that wolf!" I said to Drake through my kind as I couldn't speak in my wolf form.
"Yeah! The wolf babe did the work!" Drake replied with a smile as he continued pacing through the forest panting drastically.
'Where the hell did he get wolf bane from?' I thought still pacing with my four legs.
"Well I had them even before I arrived here, just in case." He said to me probably seeing the curious look on my face.
Drake knew quite a lot, from herbs to poisons to craftsmanship. His kind was rare. Did I forget to mention that he was really cute too? He was such a sweet fellow with an alluring figure. His body build was fascinating and highly attractive. Lucky me I suppose!
"Where do we go from here?" Drake questioned, his pace was slowing down gradually and his breath seemed to be floating away. Abruptly, he came to a stop holding on to a tree in the forest gasping frantically.
I too was tired and his sudden halt made me realize how exhausted I was too. The thought of having a plan came to my mind. We never had a contingency plan because we had never thought that our attackers could come for us within a short while. How the hell did they even find us?
Just then, a thought came to my mind. With a hopeful sense of desperation and wish for survival I scoured through the woods sniffing with my nose.
"What's that?" Drake said looking at me still gasping for his breath.
"Follow me!" I said to him rushing through a path. I hoped that we didn't meet any other person who was interested in the bounty that was placed on my head and that nothing was going to block our path. Coming across any obstacle was definitely not going to help our situation.
"Slow down! You are faster remember?" Drake said trying so hard to keep up with my speed. 'Yeah right. You are slower' I thought suddenly realizing that I was faster than he was with more energy. I managed to slow down allowing him to catch up with me for behind.
"Where the hell are we headed?" He inquired but I wasn't sure so I didn't give him any answer, I just glanced through the atmosphere, still sniffing with my nose and listening carefully for certainly.
I continued moving towards a path trying my best to maintain a steady but slower pace so that Drake would not be way more behind.
Soon we were almost at the edge of the forest. I halted just beside a huge tree not sure of what next I was going to do. The trees looked the same, arranged almost in the same pattern making it so difficult for me to tell which way forward.
Then I remembered something that could help lessen my confusion. The big oak trees at the edge of the forest. One had fewer amount of leaves compared to the others. Now I just had to hope that things were the same after over seven years.
Slowly I moved forward towards the oak trees I had sighted from a distance hopeful that things were still the same. Getting to the particular tree I had hoped to find I searched carefully and behold there it was!
Quickly I shifted back to my human form stack naked but that really didn't matter, besides Drake knew the anatomy of my body, nothing was new for him.
"It should be here somewhere!" I said searching through the forest with my eyes. Drake just stood beside me wondering what really I was in search of.
"There it is!" I said in excitement hurriedly walking over to the thickets. I dragged out the branches and grasses to reveal the car covered with a polyester. I didn't think that it would be there giving that my father had left for his usual missions in the human world and I knew he could have gone with the car. Luck was on our side I guess.
I lifted off the sheet of polyester from the car dropping it on the floor. I remembered where my father tucked the key the last time then I bent down, groping through the under of the car. Just beside one of the front tires, I felt the car key.
Quickly I pulled it from the grasses that had grown over it tangling it and opened the door of the car.
"Can you drive?" I said to Drake who stood looking really shocked.
"Let me have the key!" He said moving towards me with confidence. I handed the keys over to him with high anticipation.
I had never driven a car and never thought it was necessary to learn how to drive one. From what I gathered, Kira too was oblivious of the knowledge of driving. There were only about three cars in Moon Blood town and due to the walkable distance between places, no one really considered it worthwhile to learn how to drive.
Drake got into the car taking over the wheels and I joined him through the inter door still naked. He plunged the key into the ignition hole and twisted it gently. My prayers were answered and the car jerked severally turning on in the third attempt to start it. Drake turned on the rear lights of the car and from the little reflection, I could see a jacket and pant hanging on the hanging bar beside the backseat behind me.
I moved over to the backseat and put on the cloths while Drake matched on the throttle steering as the car started to reverse.
Drake reversed at a very high speed and before I could get hold of myself, the car hit a tree behind us causing me to almost fall.
"I thought you said you could drive?" I screamed still trying to put out my hand through the hole in the hand of the jacket.
"I never said that!" Drake replied still trying to get hold of himself. He held on to the gear handle and shifted it, then he steered again and managed to get us towards the road.
He drove for a while, his hand shaky sweating profusely afraid of killing us with his bad driving skill. I was done putting on the cloths I found in the back, then I came back to the front seat to make sure that we didn't die because of Drake's bad driving skill.
"Watch out Drake!" I screamed sighting a figure approaching from our front.
"Doesn't this bitch ever get tired?" Drake exclaimed when the woman I had been fighting with appeared from our front.
She stood in front of us, her face covered with blood. She was boiling furiously, her body charged with rage eager to get hold of us, particularly Drake who must have killed her brother.
"She is really pissed!" I said looking at Drake had already matched on the brake not sure of the next line of action.
"I know that alright!" He replied painting and trying to get hold of himself. But that wasn't really helping. The woman was few meters away from us, her courage was not flickering but with every step she made came a dashing furry.
"I am done with this bitch!" Drake said and shifted the gear handle of the car. Then he clutched the wheel of the car and fired the car severally. I wasn't sure of what he was about to do, staring at him, I could see the marks of determination and sudden courage arousing from the anger he just picked up.
Drake drove towards her at full speed determined to crush her with the car. With the car about to hit her, she dived over towards the other side of the road escaping from collision with the car as Drake drove past her.
We hit the road and I turned to see if she was in pursuit of us but she was still rolling on the floor down the cliff getting hold of herself and realizing that we were far gone. She howled in frustration. I could sense the intense feeling of her vendetta against us.
Drake drove for a long time, soon we were into Roseville. The roads had not changed so much plus I saw the sign post the moment we hit the road few meters from the small road in the thickets of the forest. There was no building or person in sight, only the street lights that illumined our path.
Drake continued to drive away from the forest. Soon we got into the area of the city where there were buildings and few persons who were still awake at that time of the night.
