Chapter 13 Battle Valkyrie

The smell of blood lingered in the air as blood dripped from Freyja's cheeks she lightly touched it and licked it with a calm face.

" It has been a long time since I tasted my blood. Perhaps, I was preoccupied with my duties and forgot who I was in the end. Thank you for reminding me."

She muttered lightly, throwing her helmet back to the people while pulling more arrows from her quiver.

Swoosh*

Without thinking anymore, she released two arrows from her bow and drew quickly again. Her hands danced on the string of her bow, feeling old nostalgia for the first time in a while.

" I will dance with the wind and die with it."

Freyja recalled her old memories when she was a young adult. She was a rebellious and dangerous girl who didn't know defeat before meeting Magnus.

The Vikings of her tribe viewed her as a second coming Frigg and her enemies were afraid of her arrows that killed them from a hundred walk distance away with precision and speed. She was hailed as the Valkyrie of the battlefield among the Vikings.

However as the time flew, she forgot how to shoot and drowned herself in house duties and wife duties. She tried to become the best wife and mother in the world, but that wasn't just her.

" I was Freyja from Fjord before I was Freyja of Wulfing."

Her arrows were filled with the coldness of death, spreading silent cold death to her enemies as they harvested lives more than anyone here.

" Freyja!"

Horton saw the former one with fury in his eyes. He believed she would back down once she had been injured but she didn't retreat like he assumed.

Instead, she threw away her all defense to become an arrow that harvested the souls of his men.

" I once hit you and I can do it again."

He drew his bow to aim at her but right before he let go of his arrow, he saw an arrow flying toward him from above as he quickly let go of his arrow and ducked down.

Swoosh*

The arrow flew right above him, hitting the soldier behind him. The soldier was puzzled to see an arrow in his chest, not understanding what just happened to him but one thing was sure. He was dead because the arrow was lodged into his flesh like a venomous snake.

Cough*

He spurted out blood from his mouth, looking at his leader with a mixture of confusion and horror. The sense of coldness and numbness enveloped his mind while he knelt on the floor without strength.

" Rest, child."

Horton closed his eyes with his robust fingers, raising his head with hatred in his eyes. He never thought Freyja would be this straightforward because she somehow almost killed him from the top and her arrow was able to get through everything like it was alive.

The wind gently blew their faces as they glanced at each other. The screams and cries of their men didn't reach their ears anymore.

" I will shoot you down, Valkyrie."

Horton snorted coldly, knowing it was time for the showdown.

Meanwhile, back in the village, Erik was slowly scouting the area out of his caution. His gut feeling worsened with every passing moment, alarming him to be vigilant in these cold mountains.

" There is no trail of humans but that doesn't mean there is no one here."

Erik broke branches of the trees to mark where he scouted first as he proceeded to the mountains.

Although there was no sane person who would do this extreme climbing, he believed Bjorn might be insane, unlike others. Bjorn was a Viking like them and he had a high tolerance against cold them which meant he could climb these mountains despite their harsh climate.

" If they climbed the mountains, I believe I have a little chance against them, so I have to leave traps as many as possible."

Erik didn't hesitate to destroy his trails, making false trails to trick the invaders in case of emergency. He knew the children and elders wouldn't come here, so he had no worries when it came to creating distractions to confuse enemies.
