Chapter 3: This Time, Ye Feng Envied Tang San for Having a Father Who Was a Titled Douluo
"Master, how about it? Are there any children in our village who can become spirit masters this year?" Old Jack asked anxiously.
"Well, there are two of them. And they both have innate full spirit power!" Su Yuntao replied.
"Innate full spirit power?" Old Jack's eyes lit up.
"One has an innate full spirit power of level ten, and the other has an innate full spirit power of level twenty." Su Yuntao added.
"Another one with innate full spirit power at level twenty!" Old Jack's eyes widened, and he stood there in a daze, too stunned to speak.
For a village like this, the appearance of a child with even a little spirit power was already a rarity. As for someone with innate full spirit power at level twenty? That had never happened in Holy Spirit Village.
"Alas, what a pity. One of them has the Blue Silver Grass spirit, and the other has the Pear spirit! Do you understand?" Su Yuntao said regretfully.
"Blue Silver Grass… Pear… Innate full spirit power… Master, is there really no way to cultivate the Blue Silver Grass and Pear spirits?" Old Jack asked, unwilling to accept it.
"It's not that they can't be cultivated at all. But tell me, what do you think Blue Silver Grass and Pear will evolve into as their spirit levels improve?" Su Yuntao said flatly, glancing at Ye Feng and Tang San, who had already walked out of the hall. He sighed regretfully, "A useless spirit is still a useless spirit. Such a pity for these two with innate full spirit power… Well, I still have to visit other villages to help awaken martial spirits, so I'm leaving now."
After Su Yuntao finished speaking, he turned around and left, leaving Old Jack deep in thought.
"Grandpa Jack, what is a spirit ring? How can one obtain a spirit ring?" Tang San walked up and asked.
"I don't know exactly what a spirit ring is either. But to obtain one, it seems you have to hunt spirit beasts. That's something only spirit masters can do." Old Jack answered, then looked at Tang San and asked, "Xiao San, are you the child with innate full spirit power that the master mentioned?"
"I only have level ten innate full spirit power. But Ye Feng… his is at level twenty." Tang San glanced at Ye Feng, who was walking slowly behind him, his tone carrying a trace of envy.
Think about it—Tang San had practiced Xuantian Gong for years, yet his spirit power was still ten levels lower than Ye Feng's. Even with cheats, he couldn't catch up!
"Ye Feng, is your innate spirit power really level twenty?" Old Jack asked, his reaction to Ye Feng's talent far less enthusiastic than his reaction to Tang San's.
"Yes," Ye Feng replied.
"Show me your spirit." Old Jack requested.
Ye Feng extended his right hand, and a jade-like crabapple appeared in his palm.
"It's true… It looks so much like hers, but the color is different!" Old Jack murmured to himself.
"Like who?" Ye Feng raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued.
A spirit master's spirit is usually inherited from their parents. Most people inherit the spirit of either their father or mother, though some may awaken ancestral spirits from their grandparents or even further back in their lineage.
Ye Feng had been an orphan since childhood. In the village, there was an unmarked grave that Old Jack had told him contained his parents. No matter how much Ye Feng asked, Old Jack refused to reveal anything more about them. All the villagers knew was that one day, Old Jack had returned from outside the village with two corpses on a carriage and a crying baby in his arms. That baby was Ye Feng.
Now, Old Jack's words stirred something in Ye Feng's heart.
"Ye Feng, you are not allowed to become a spirit master. Do you hear me?" Old Jack ordered sternly.
"Why not?" Ye Feng demanded.
"If I say no, then it's not allowed." Old Jack's tone was firm.
"No way. I decide my own fate!" Ye Feng shot back.
"You…"
Old Jack stared at him angrily, paused, then seemed to think of something. His expression suddenly became calm. "There is only one work-study student spot for our village. I am the village chief. If I don't give it to you, let's see how you'll register for Notting Junior Spirit Master Academy."
"Am I still your adopted son?" Ye Feng roared.
"That's exactly why I get to decide whether you go or not." Old Jack smiled slyly, then turned to Tang San. "Xiao San, tell Grandpa—do you want to go to a special school to learn the spirit master's training method? Only there can you receive the most precise knowledge about spirits."
"You'll have to ask my father first." Tang San replied.
"Good boy! That's how it should be—you should always ask your father first. Come, I'll take you home." Old Jack patted Tang San's head, completely ignoring Ye Feng, whose talent far exceeded Tang San's.
"Grandpa Jack, you just said there's only one work-study student spot for our village?"
"Yes, and it's yours."
"But… Ye Feng's spirit power is higher than mine!"
"So what? His useless spirit won't evolve into anything worthwhile."
"It just… feels unfair to him."
"I am the village chief, and I raised him. Wouldn't it be unfair if I gave the work-study spot to him instead of you?"
Old Jack and Tang San walked away, their voices fading into the distance, leaving Ye Feng standing alone.
Ye Feng picked up a stone from the ground and hurled it at the stone pillar that bore the imprint of a Spirit Saint's hand. "Damn it!" he cursed.
Watching their backs as they disappeared, Ye Feng frowned.
Without the work-study spot, he wouldn't be able to attend Notting Junior Spirit Master Academy. Without the academy, he wouldn't have anyone to help him hunt spirit beasts for spirit rings, and without spirit rings, he wouldn't be able to meet Xiao Wu.
Old Jack's decision had completely disrupted his plans.
"Should I go find Su Yuntao and study at the Spirit Hall's academy instead?"
Ye Feng thought of Su Yuntao's offer. Before leaving, Su Yuntao had told him that if he changed his mind, he could go to the Spirit Hall in Notting City to find him.
"Xiao San, I didn't expect you to be so talented. It's a pity you have such a father. If he had passed down a good martial spirit to you, maybe you could have become the second Spirit Saint of our village!"
Old Jack's voice echoed in the distance.
Ye Feng scoffed and murmured to himself, "Tang San's father isn't just anyone. He's the legendary Clear Sky Douluo, one of the strongest spirit masters alive. And Tang San inherited his father's Clear Sky Hammer. The moment he goes home, Tang Hao will definitely agree to let him attend the Spirit Master Academy. Damn, I really envy Tang San for having a Titled Douluo as a father. If I had one, I wouldn't have to worry about being too poor to even afford to go to a spirit master academy!"
Ding!
"The system has detected that the host envies Tang San for having a Titled Douluo as a father. The system is dissatisfied and has granted the host a Titled Douluo master!
.....
PS: Guess who Ye Feng's master is?
