Alti
She was the rose in the middle of a field filled with reeds. There wasn't a beauty like her in the entire village and a demon in the form of a flesh seemed to be enchanted with her. It might have been the many covetous eyes that such a fate worse than death befell her that she ended up being with the demon.
Since then, death and life seemed to be the same for her till a charming prince came into her life. Once the demon found out about it, he forced a gun in the hands of a twelve year old kid.
Their kid.
That was the first time I killed someone.
Two, precisely.
"It's done, father"
A hum came from the other side and that was the end of the conversation. I slipped my phone back into my pocket and started cleaning the mess. Scrub the blood off the floor and dump the bodies in plastic bags by severing it into pieces.
Like all the other times.
Once done, I curled on my bed, hugging the teddy bear close to my chest, the last souvenir from mom. My hands were trembling and sweaty, I sucked in a sharp breath.
Grow up.
Grow up!
I should be used to it by now. The blood. The sacrifices, being the descendant of Maithal.
But…
I couldn't.
No matter how many times I tried, I just couldn't get used to it. At night I saw their souls staring at me, blaming me for snatching their lives away.
With shaky hands, I took the pills and forced it down my throat with water.
I hugged the bear tighter and waited for the medicine to work, for the last time fighting off the demons in my head, before falling into a deep sleep, the vision of bodies in my head blurring till everything went black. And when the morning finally came, I was all the more eager to go to college.
I searched the seats for him but then remembered that he had his leg shot. I sighed and waited for the classes to be over.
I rushed out of the classroom chasing after the two people that were walking side by side.
"Ez!!!"
I yelled. They stopped in their tracks and looked at me. Ez had a hint of disdain towards me while the girl whom I think I've met before, smiled at me.
"What do you want?"
I gulped at the way he asked me. He sure was mad at me. I took in a breath and looked back at him with determination.
"Rix, how is he?"
They looked at each other with a hint of gloominess lingering in their eyes and my heart squeezed.
"Is he- is he alive?"
I asked with a small voice. The words hung heavy in the air. They looked at each other again, both of them in silent conversation with their eyes. I frowned, curious to what they were battling for. Soon, Ez sighed and nodded his head. The girl smiled and turned towards me.
"You want to follow us?"
I nodded my head eagerly. We got into the car and she drove towards the forest area. I sat up vigilant as the car went towards an unknown deserted area.
Every shift, every move, I watched alarmed.
I frowned when we pulled over around a cottage house in the middle of nowhere. I felt the knife in my back pocket and got out of the car when they did.
I clutched my bag tight and followed them inside, finding something different about the place.
Throughout I stayed near the door as I scrutinised the place. The floor and the walls were well furnished and just perfect for at least two people. There was a stair on the left and the kitchen was by the stairs, while the basement door was on the left below the stairs. The living area was small with two couches and a table with a flower pot on top of it. And a television.
"Where is Rix?"
I asked, looking to and fro between them and the door, in case.
"Relax, we aren't like your kind"
Ez spat and my chest twisted.
Right...
The lady hit his arm lightly and smiled at me, silently asking for forgiveness. I shook my head.
"This is my house. My name is Enin. It's the second time we're meeting I guess"
She held her hand out and took it.
Enin…..
"Rix is up there, sleeping. It'll take him a while till he gets up"
I nodded my head and she led me into the room. It was a small space with a bed in the middle, the cupboard on the side and a table by the bed where Rix slept. His leg was bandaged and something about him felt a bit odd, I couldn't put my fingers at.
I shook the thoughts away and touched his chest, to feel it beating. I sighed when I heard his thumping heart.
"Done?"
Ez asked. I nodded my head.
"Then you can go"
I pressed my lips thin and left the place with Enin driving me back to my house. I frowned when I saw multiple cars parked outside the house.
"Thank you"
I said and she smiled.
"Welcome"
I watched her leave, then sighed and went inside when, to my shock, father sat there on the couch with the other inner members of the Bloody Phoenix.
"Ah, Alti! Come, join us"
Haival stood up and escorted me to a seat. Then he sat beside me. He had green hazel eyes and black wavy hair, which came till his shoulders.
"We were just having a discussion on the great escape"
So Rix.
I looked at my father and he sat there silent.
"Apparently, he was able to get out of the cage, despite feeding him well. What an ungrateful boy?"
He's not a bird.
I held my tongue and sat quietly.
"Now, what are we supposed to say to the Shadow King?"
Melanie asked, her blonde hair braided into one. Her lips rosy and her eyes brown.
"We'll have to sacrifice someone, no? Not gonna ask who?"
Haival asked looking at me.
"Who?"
I asked.
Chills went down my spine when they all stared at me, all with smiling faces.
