Second to reading, Kiya’s other love was cooking. She was really creative with her cooking and people were often transported by her dishes. She budgeted and saved up for choice ingredients, whenever she had to cook for a special event at home.
People paid her for cooking at parties, sometimes. She dreamed that one day some important restaurant owner would discover her talent and open up the world to her.
She might even appear on a television cooking show one day.
These dreams were not shared with anyone though, because of her fear of being ridiculed.
So it was that Adam’s occasional visits were very welcome and Kiya loved cooking for him. As long as he could tell her everything about another kind of life, far from these mundane surroundings.
She loved it when he came into the kitchen and started to talk until dinner was served.
She would think about what he had said, as she lay in bed at night, because her dad insisted that they go to bed early.
